Katy Perry Thrives While Britney Spears Dives

Last week, both Katy Perry and Britney Spears released new singles. Perry’s “Rise” and Spears’ “Make Me” have both hit No. 1, but only Katy Perry remains in the top 10 on iTunes as of Tuesday evening. Perry is at No. 2 after being No. 1 all weekend, while Britney Spears has fallen to No. 13.

However, it’s still way too early to discount Britney Spears’ comeback. “Make Me” is her most successful single in years and has easily outsold past flops as “Pretty Girls” with Iggy Azalea and “Work Bi**h,” which barely made a dent on the charts in 2013.

“Make Me” has received mostly positive reviews. Entertainment Weekly gave the track an “A-.”

“This time, she’s tapped breakout rapper/songwriter G-Eazy, British producer BURNS, and songwriter Joe Janiak for a woozy, future-funk burner called ‘Make Me,’ which is packed with whooshing synths and a seductive, dub step-esque boom-bap.”

However, the writers at Idolator thought that Spears’ “Make Me” was mediocre. Critic Robbie Daw gave it a 6/10 and said that it’s rather safe, which isn’t really a good thing for a risk-taker like Britney Spears. Carl Williott also gave “Make Me” a 6/10 and said that although Britney sounds more fresh than she has in years, there is something too “try-hard” about the whole record.

Even if “Make Me” doesn’t become one of Britney Spears’ biggest hits, the consensus seems to be that Britney is very happy in her personal life. Ten years ago, all you heard about was what a mess Britney Spears had become. Now, Britney is always pictured looking toned and smiling with her children. The Daily Mail recently wrote an article about how Britney has been confident enough to flaunt her body.

“She displayed her rock hard abs just last week, as raunchy promo shots of the scantily-clad star for new single Make Me were unveiled. And mother-of-two Britney Spears has been flaunting her enviably toned body once again, this time in the form of holiday snaps posted to her Instagram page.

The Daily Mail couldn’t stop fawning over her “beach-ready” body and how happy she was posing next to her son Jayden James, who is 9 years old. They were at a theme park in Los Angeles.

Britney Spears is still finishing up her latest album, which should be out soon. However, Britney may want to release her album as soon as possible so she doesn’t have to compete with Katy Perry, who is currently a much hotter star in terms of commercial success. There are some rumors that Perry may deliver a new album by the end of the year, but most sources have Perry not releasing a new album until 2017.

Still, Perry’s latest single “Rise” is helping fans get over the long wait. The song will likely debut in the top 5 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 next week. Rolling Stone is just one of the many sources that like Katy Perry’s new song.

“Katy Perry unveiled her first new song in three years with ‘Rise,’ the singer’s theme for NBC’s broadcast of the upcoming 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio…Produced by pop extraordinaire Max Martin, ‘Rise’ is a galvanic sequel to her 2013 smash hit ‘Roar.'”

Twitter has gone wild over Katy Perry’s new song.
