Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello Back On? Dating Rumors Swirl Once Again

Shawn Mendes and Fifth Harmony’s Camila Cabello have refuted rumors about their alleged romance on multiple occasions, but it looks like fans aren’t buying their denials.

A number of social media users recently took to social media to will Mendes and Cabello together, tweeting out a number of messages urging the two to announce a romance under the hashtag #WeBelieveinShawmila.

“I think Shawn and Camilla would be cute together TBH #WeBelieveinShawmila,” @livinpinkmusic tweeted on the 140-character site, and @5hftjariana wrote, “I want them to date so bad #WeBelieveinShawmila.”

“They’re perfect together #WeBelieveinShawmila” @rawangamal866 added about Mendes and Cabello.

But while some fans used the viral hashtag to will Shawn and Camila together, others used the hashtag to support the twosome’s close friendship.

“Why is #WeBelieveInShawmila trending? They’re just friends LOL,” @femkeleestx tweeted out, while Twitter user @Sonia1_Lovatic wrote on the social media site, “#WeBelieveinShawmila as friendship and nothing more.”

“#WeBelieveinShawmila theyre so cute together. ‘As friends.'” @SaraElllenn added, and @ohlouislove tweeted, “How about no? I can see them only as friends #WeBelieveinShawmila.”

Shawn and Camila have long denied that they’re romantically involved, with Mendes most recently shutting down the rampant Camila dating reports in a May interview with Seventeen magazine.

When asked by the magazine if he and Camila were officially dating, Mendes flat out denied the romance reports, but he had nothing but praise for the Fifth Harmony star.

“We aren’t dating,” Mendes told Seventeen about Camila, whom he teamed up with last year to release the hit, “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”

“I love her and she’s so talented. She’s one of the sweetest girls I’ve ever met and super, super-smart… musically, she blows my mind,” Shawn Mendes continued about Camila Cabello, confessing to the magazine that he “loves” the girlbander and thinks she’s “phenomenal.”

Camila has also done her part to put an end to the Shawn dating rumors, opening up about the constant romance reports in a separate interview with Seventeen magazine earlier this month.

“Making music with your friends is the best and we’ve had so much fun working together,” Cabello said when asked if the two were dating and about their hit duet.

Cabello then shut down the dating rumor mill, but she admitted the rumors suggesting that she and Mendes were a couple actually “don’t bother” her.

“When it comes to Shawn the speculation doesn’t really bother me because we’re just really great friends,” Camila said, revealing that she actually receives hate on social media from fans who are jealous of her and Mendes’s close friendship.

“If people around you hate on you for that, then they’re not really people you want in your life anyway,” Cabello continued.

Shawn and Camila’s most recent denials came just weeks after Mendes also denied the dating rumors in an interview with British radio station Capital FM earlier this year.

Host Dave Berry bluntly asked Shawn if he and Cabello were officially an item, to which Mendes opted to put an end to the constantly swirling dating reports once and for all.

“We’re not dating,” Shawn told the radio host, “so that’s straight here. Don’t ask again.”

But while Shawn was quick to shut down the dating speculation, Mendes did admit during the radio interview that he doesn’t actually mind that fans are willing the two together.

“It’s fine, honestly,” Shawn revealed during the Capital FM interview. “You can’t expect as an artist to do a collaboration with a girl and the world not think you’re dating, so it’s okay.”
