It’s four days early, but a low-quality version of Major Lazer’s new “Cold Water” single featuring Justin Bieber and Danish songstress MØ has made its way onto the internet.
The mid-tempo rocks a gentle dub beat, an addictive chorus, smooth vocals by both singers, and the additional co-writing assistance of Ed Sheeran and Benny Blanco.
“Cold Water” is the lead single from Major Lazer’s upcoming studio album, Music Is the Weapon . It’s scheduled to drop in early 2017. The song, which was leaked on a Chinese radio station, is set for release to digital retailers and streaming services on Friday, July 22.

“Everybody gets high sometimes, you know,” Bieber croons in the first verse. “What else can we do when we’re feeling low? / So take a deep breath and let it go / You shouldn’t be drowning on your own.”
Interestingly, the title comes in the pre-chorus, not chorus. Justin sings, “And if you feel you’re sinking, I will jump right over / Into cold, cold water for you / And although time may take us to different places / I will still be patient with you / And I want you to know…”
“I won’t let go / I’ll be your lifeline tonight,” the Canadian promises on the hook. “I won’t let go / I’ll be your lifeline tonight”

In one way or another, everyone involved on “Cold Water” knows each other. Major Lazer’s Diplo first worked with Bieber on the heartthrob’s 2012 Believe album. The producer-DJ also featured MØ on Major Lazer’s “Lean On” back in 2015 to great acclaim and enjoyed success. The Biebs teamed up Diplo and Skrillex for their Jack Ü album and had a huge hit with the shimmering EDM classic “Where Are Ü Now.”
Sheeran and Blanco were co-writers and co-producers on Bieber’s “Love Yourself” single, an acoustic kiss-off which featured on the singer’s multi-million-selling Purpose album, which he is now supporting with his Purpose World Tour.

A few days ago, Bieber tweeted the start of a countdown alongside the single’s cover art for the single, which followed previous teases on Twitter.
“#coldwater coming this month. Me, @MAJORLAZER @ItsBennyBlanco @edsheeran,” the Biebs tweeted on Friday (July 1), adding fire emojis.
Shortly afterwards, Diplo shared a tweet saying the release date would be July 15, which he deleted.

Fast forward to July 8, two tweets appeared on the official Justin Bieber Twitter account beginning the countdown to the release of “Cold Water.” The first tweet also clarified that Sheeran is a co-writer on the song, not a singer.
“#coldwater 2 weeks. @MAJORLAZER @diplo let’s go. And for those asking written with @ItsBennyBlanco and @edsheeran. He ain’t on it,” the post read.

Back in May, Diplo revealed that Major Lazer’s “Cold Water” single would feature Bieber and MØ during his Lazer Sound Beats 1 show.
In other Justin Bieber music news, the superstar is about to wrap the North American run of his Purpose World Tour at New York City’s Madison Square Garden today (June 18) and 19.
According to the national tour promoter AEG, the singer’s total tour gross revenue from 51 performances since kicking off March 9 in Seattle, Washington, is $70 million. After the North American run, the pop icon heads to Tokyo in August. During the fall, the trek will play Europe for three months.
