Hillary Clinton’s Running Mate To Be Announced: VP Potentials Include Tim Kaine And Elizabeth Warren
Hillary Clinton met with several potential running mates after Donald Trump selected Mike Pence to be his VP.
According to CNN, Clinton met with potential vice presidents at her home. The potential VP picks include Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro.
Senator Tim Kaine, who appeared with Hillary Clinton at a campaign event, is also up for consideration but was not reported to have met with Clinton at her home.
Brian Fallon, a Clinton campaign spokesman, stated that Clinton “held a series of campaign-related meetings at her Washington home, including several about her vice presidential selection process.”
Several political commentators suggest that Hillary Clinton should pick a progressive VP to rally Bernie Sanders supporters behind her to defeat Trump.

Although Bernie has officially endorsed her, to ensure Clinton has a high turnout of Bernie voters, a progressive VP may do the trick. This month, Sanders told Matt Lauer on NBC’s Today that he “would like to see the most progressive person possible,” according to the Washington Post.
Potential Hillary Clinton running mate Tim Kaine is considered a moderate Democrat and may not be the right choice to appeal to Sanders’ supporters.

The Huffington Post reports that progressive Democrats feel that Senator Kaine will reduce the engagement and turnout. The publication also gets a reaction from progressive Democrats.
“Asked about a Clinton/Kaine ticket, Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.), who is running in his state’s Democratic Senate primary, let out a disdainful chuckle. “What can I say? I worry he’s well to the right of the mainstream Democratic Party,” he said.”

Adam Green, the co-founder of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, also commented on a potentially moderate VP pick.
“An energizing vice presidential pick will get millions of people to not just vote, but volunteer and give money as opposed to merely showing up on election day.”
Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren is also a VP hopeful. Warren would be a popular choice for progressives, and her attacks on Trump are the perfect set-up for the embattled presidential election process.
Warren as a Hillary Clinton running mate will get the progressives of the Democratic party engaged.
Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper met with presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton to discuss a VP role. Hickenlooper is believed to be on the shortlist of potential running mates. The governor has not publicly commented on his interest in the VP role and did not give any information on what he discussed with Clinton.
According to ABC News, Hickenlooper has a good relationship with the Clintons, which is crucial when selecting a VP.
“Hickenlooper has been a close friend of the Clintons for many years and has held many fundraisers for Clinton during this election cycle. Just last week, Hickenlooper hosted a fundraiser for Clinton at his Denver residence. Clinton also met with the Colorado governor for coffee at that time for what the governor described at that time as ‘brief’ social conversation.”
Hillary Clinton is currently ahead of Donald Trump in new polls, and the right running mate could help Clinton keep that lead.
As of now, Hillary Clinton’s running mate is to be announced after the Republican convention. However, some sources suggest that she may announce her VP after the Democratic convention.
The VP is likely to have a record with progressive policies to help Clinton unite the Democratic Party. Bernie Sanders stated that this is the most progressive Democratic Party in recent memory. Sander also said that he will speak at the Democratic convention with Hillary Clinton and he has not calmed down his attacks on Donald Trump.
