‘Stranger Things’ Season 2 Release Date: Cast Likely To Return For Second Season Of Incredibly Popular New Netflix Original

Whilst Netflix is best known as a catalogue of some of the greatest movies and television shows released in recent times, the streaming service has taken something of a different approach of late, releasing a number of their own TV series under the Netflix Originals branding. These shows are often released with little warning, with Stranger Things being no exception. The first season of Stranger Things made its debut on Netflix on July 15, and has already gained a fan following.

Questions are now turning to the incredibly popular Netflix Original’s second season. According to Fansided, if Netflix’s other original programming is anything to go by, the popularity of Stranger Things almost guarantees that the show will receive a second season. Dedicated fans of Stranger Things have already binge-watched their way through the entirety of the show’s first season, now ready to move onto the second season, which Netflix is expected to announce soon.

Stranger Things is being pitched as a science fiction-horror. Set in 1980s Indiana, Stranger Things follows the story of a young boy who vanishes into thin air. The eight-episode first season fuses together aspects of murder mystery and horror in a science fiction universe to create what has become one of Netflix’s most popular pieces of original programming.

According to Romper, the show’s co-creator, Matt Duffer, is expecting the announcement around Stranger Things Season 2 to be made fairly shortly. When Netflix has seen a good deal of success with one of its original programs in the past, the streaming service has always been quick to confirm a second season. Interestingly, however, the first season of Stranger Things was only eight episodes in length, leaving many fans to question if Netflix already has more episodes ready to be released.

As aforementioned, the second season of Stranger Things is now almost a given. However, it’s not entirely certain when Netflix will bring the series back. That being said, Netflix typically has a strict schedule when it comes to the release of their original programming. Popular Netflix Originals including House of Cards and Orange Is the New Black are typically released in the same month each year, suggesting that Stranger Things is likely to release in July, 2017, given the first season’s release date.

Whilst fans of Stranger Things are definitely hoping for a second season of the hit drama, that second season may not be exactly what they expect. The show’s creator has spoken about where they’d take Stranger Things in its second season and that might not necessarily involve bringing many of the first season’s cast members back, saying “The hope is that it feels satisfying but that we left room and that if people respond to it we can go back into this world. But if we do get to go back, it’s not a second season as much as a sequel.”

A lot of Netflix’s most popular content now falls under the Netflix Originals brand, which is content distributed exclusively on the streaming service. The likes of House of Cards and Marvel series including Daredevil and Jessica Jones have seen incredible success for Netflix. At the same time, the service has played home to a number of hit comedies, including Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Aziz Ansari’s Master of None.

Netflix only looks set to build on its array of incredibly popular original content. Whether or not Stranger Things will become a permanent fixture in Netflix’s release schedule remains to be seen, however, given the incredible success of the show’s first season, it’s looking more and more likely.
