‘Ray Donovan’ Recap And Spoilers: Ray Can’t Just Shake Off Trouble

Ray Donovan (Liev Schreiber), the man who specializes in fixing other people’s problems cannot just fix his own. His family is anything but perfect, and his father, Mickey Donovan (Jon Voight), has become a nagging shadow that he just can’t get rid of, no matter what he does.

In Ray Donovan Season 4, Episode 3, Mickey tried to set an operation in motion that could have made him a millionaire. However, he was easily outsmarted by his accomplice who ran away with the $4 million prize leaving Mickey at the jaws of the lion with the security of the robbed casino in pursuit.

Luckily, he managed to escape, and now, according to the latest teasers for the next episode, Mickey is set to return to town as he seeks another partner in crime for a new scheme. Mickey never runs out of ideas, especially the ones that involve criminal activity and this makes him bad company to have around.

In fact, since Mickey was released from prison on parole, things have become tougher for Ray, as he now seems incapable of staying out of trouble. In the previous episode of Ray Donovan, Ray had to witnesses his wife, Abby (Paula Malcolmson), shooting a man in the head.

In Ray Donovan Season 3, Ray and Mickey declared war against the Armenian cartel after Terry Donovan (Eddie Marsan) got shot in an ambush at Mickey’s new residence. This led to an action-packed exchange of fire as the Donovans went on a revenge mission.

However, the murder of the Armenian family, including their leader, triggered a chain reaction which led to the arrest of a Russian cross-border criminal, Belikov (Pasha D. Lychnikoff). Belikov’s men are then believed to have been ordered by Sonia (Embeth Davidtz) to go after Ray and his family, as she needed Belikov out of prison.

Nonetheless, even after Ray Donovan committed to reimburse all the expenses that Sonia may have incurred as a result of Belikov’s imprisonment, she seemed to be in a hurry to get him out, but Ray, who also promised to get Belikov out in a deal that would see Sonia “call off her dogs,” wanted more time.

Elsewhere, Abby’s increasingly becoming paranoid following her breast cancer prognosis. She has declined to accept the doctor’s advice and this has put her in an unpredictable state of emotion. Even after telling Ray Donovan about the prognosis, she is reluctant to let him help her. It is a state of denial that she seems hell-bent on sticking to.

Meanwhile, Ray Donovan continues to search for answers that could help him change the current situation. His search lands him on one of his former partner-in-crime’s closely kept secrets. Ray Donovan visits Ezra’s (Elliot Gould) widow, Deb (Denise Crosby). Ray is seen opening Ezra’s safe in a closet with his widow exclaiming “the two of you and your secrets.” It is believed that the safe contains some secrets from the past that Ezra and Ray Donovan shared, which he could use to secure his future.

Ray Donovan just appears to be glued to trouble. This is despite the fact that he has helped several people to get out of trouble by burying their secrets.

His family is broken, his 18-year old daughter is dating a man that Ray believes is a pedophile given the 16-year age difference, while his son wants to emulate the life of the Donovans, which is apparently gang-related.

Ray Donovan has been amongst Showtime’s best TV shows, and this has seen it get listed among the network’s 22 Emmy Award nominations for 2016, but things could still get crazier now that Mickey is back in town and in search of a partner in crime. Sound familiar? The next episode of Ray Donovan titled “Federal Boobie Inspector” airs on July 17, at 9 p.m. EST on Showtime.
