Blake Shelton Admits He Has Regrets In His Relationship With Gwen Stefani
Blake Shelton has one regret when it comes to Gwen Stefani.
The country singer recently celebrated his 40th birthday with a concert at the Country Jam festival in Colorado. However, after he invited his girlfriend and No Doubt frontwoman on stage, things took an unexpected turn.
According to Fox News, Shelton surprised fans when he introduced Stefani on stage to sing their duet, “Go Ahead and Break My Heart.” Unfortunately, Shelton quickly realized inviting Stefani onstage was a huge mistake.
“I’m doing my normal, you know, what I think is rockin’. Standing up there with my acoustic guitar in front of my stand and singing my songs,” Shelton explained in an interview with Chelsea Handler. “I had my band work up one of her songs, ‘Hella Good.’ And I thought ‘Man, that’d be so cool to have her come out and surprise.’ It’s the worst thing I could have done because all it did was make me look terrible.”
Although fans reacted well to the duet, it was Stefani’s single that energized the arena and topped anything that Shelton performed beforehand.“This is fun!” Shelton told the audience prior to Stefani’s arrival. “Y’all have been so freakin’ nice to me on my 40th birthday, and I guess if I had one birthday wish for me personally… I wish I could rock. I wish I was one of those type of artists that could rock but I can’t.”
“For my birthday I wish I could hear an artist who could rock, that’s my birthday wish,” he added before introducing Stefani on stage.
According to New Magazine, Stefani granted Blake Shelton’s wish by rocking the crowd with her single.
“Literally 40,000 were jumping up and down,” Shelton added. “I mean, that’s probably what it’s like at real concerts, but I was like ‘Whoa. What’s going on?’ People were so excited to see her.”
Shelton and Stefani started dating back in November and are still going strong in their relationship. The Voice judges began their romance after going through separate divorces last summer.
Stefani split from her longtime husband, Gavin Rossdale, while Shelton broke things off with Miranda Lambert. Stefani had three kids with Rossdale. Shelton and Lambert did not have any children together.
In speaking about his divorce, Shelton told Handler that it is still a difficult subject to discuss. In fact, according to Yahoo, Shelton hit rock bottom after his divorce with Lambert and had trouble turning things around.“It makes me nervous to talk about it,” Shelton stated in the interview. “…My marriage, everything just fell apart, and then trying to pick the pieces up from being at the rock bottom, you know.”
Fortunately, Shelton’s relationship with Stefani really helped him through the hard times and enabled him to move forward with his life
“To all the sudden find out she’s going through basically the same exact thing at the same time – and this is how my life turned around,” Shelton explained. “And so quickly too, by the way. It’s like ‘Whoa!’ – all this has to be meant to happen, you know.”
Shelton and Stefani collaborated together on their new duet, which is also part of Shelton’s album If I’m Honest.
For her part, Stefani is currently on tour promoting her newest work, This Is What the Truth Feels Like.
Based on their interactions together over the past few months, Shelton is more than grateful with how things have turned out.
“Do you feel like you’re happier than you’ve ever been in your entire life?” Handler asked him.
“Oh, there’s no question about that,” he replied.
