Fans of Platinum Games’ bizarre, flashy action game Bayonetta have been clamoring for a sequel, and today they finally got their wish.
At Nintendo’s press conference, the company announced that Platinum Games is hard at work on developing Bayonetta 2 . More surprisingly than the fact that the game is getting a sequel, Nintendo also announced that Bayonetta 2 will be exclusive to the Wii U .
There’s no word on release date at the moment, unfortunately. In fact, there’s not much information on the game at all; only a fairly brief trailer was released, which doesn’t tell us much beyond the fact that Bayonetta 2 is a game, and it’s coming out. At some point.
What we do know about Bayonetta 2 is that it’s once again being developed by Platinum Games and that Nintendo will be handling publishing duties this time around.
Bayonetta was originally released in 2010 for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360; there wasn’t a port to the Wii. It was expected that a sequel would be released eventually given the relative success of the original, but I don’t think anyone could have called it as being exclusive to the Wii U.
Considering that Bayonetta was a pretty big hit in Japan, I imagine Nintendo’s move to make the sequel exclusive will pay off more in that market than in the west.
At any rate, you can go ahead and check out the announcement teaser for Bayonetta 2 shown off at Nintendo’s press conference earlier on below.
