Jimmy Kimmel Fools LA Into Thinking The iPhone 4S Is The iPhone 5 [Video]

It’s nothing to be ashamed of. We all want the iPhone 5, and we are anxiously awaiting its release. Talk show host and comedian Jimmy Kimmel pulled a prank on the streets of Los Angeles to show just how desperate for new Apple tech we all are, fooling just about everyone into believing that an old iPhone 4S was an early release of the iPhone 5.

Jimmy Kimmel’s team took a garden-variety iPhone 4S to the streets of Los Angeles to ask people what they thought of it, reports MSN . Of course, they told passersby that they were actually holding an iPhone 5, letting people play with it and asking them what they think. Remarkably, embarrassingly, and hilariously, everyone seemed to just adore the iPhone 4S that they were made to believe was an iPhone 5.

Most found the “new” Apple product to be “faster,” “lighter,” and just plain “way better.” One person even thought it was nicer than his own iPhone 4S.

According to CNET , Kimmel’s video prank shows the dangers of something called “ration marketing.” In short, “People are so desperate for the new, new thing that they don’t even realize they’re being shown and old, old thing.” Yesterday’s iPhone 5 presentation left some disappointed that the new phone isn’t all that different from the 4S. Apple turned this around on the consumer by saying that Apple consumers don’t really want a dramatically different phone from the 4S.

And this video seems to prove Apple’s point.

Here’s the video of Jimmy Kimmel’s Apple “iPhone 5″ prank. Enjoy!
