Madonna’s Alleged Veiny Hand Surgery Speculation Is An Insult To All Women

The tabloid press has been obsessed with Madonna’s “veiny” hands for years and has constantly body shamed her because of them, which are most likely the results of heavy workouts. Now that Madonna has patched things up with her son Rocco and is doing good work in Africa, the tabloid press (which the mainstream press often quotes) is back to reporting on her hands. The Daily Mail, which has come under fire recently for body and age-shaming both Jennifer Aniston and Gillian Anderson, has a new report on Madonna’s hands.

“She’s managed to defy time with her youthful appearance and now Madonna‘s hands are reportedly getting the A-list treatment in a bid to keep them looking their best.”

The Daily Mail adds that Madonna is now paying for £250 redermalization mesotherapy sessions. The treatment, from Russia, involves microinjections of amino acids, vitamins, and other products to stimulate the production of skin-plumping collagen.

The article itself, besides taking glee in mentioning Madonna’s age in the title, isn’t as misogynistic as other articles about Madonna. However the fact that an article has even been written about her hands is insulting to other women. You will never ever read an article about Bruce Springsteen or Mick Jagger’s hands. Nobody is speculating on the type of surgery Michael Douglas or Elton John is having. Ageism is ripe in society, yet it seems solely aimed at women.

People in the comments section after the article had no problem shaming Madonna.

“The only things she hasn’t had work done on are her ovaries,” claims Karl Vyn.

“Just the face and body to do next then,” claims Frottage.

However, there is at least one person who passionately defends Madonna.

“It really sad that low quality journalism like the DM keeps at this woman like she isn’t human. Good job for the most sexist ageism bullying on the Internet,” claims Tina Cook.

Perhaps even worse than tabloids creating fake stories based on an older woman’s hands is the fact that other women take it as the gospel and use it to bash Madonna.

Judith Woods of The Telegraph slams Madonna for her alleged surgery.

“Just when I think we have reached the giddy heights of self-indulgent decadence, along comes Madonna to set the bar just a little higher. The Material Girl has had her hands refurbished. Of course she has. Apparently, her ageing hands were a source of even more shame and distress than her increasing cultural and musical irrelevance.”

In terms of “cultural and musical irrelevance,”Forbes has just named Madonna the richest female entertainer in the world. They estimate her worth at $550 million, even though other sources say she has earned a lot more. According to their list of the top money-making celebrities of the past year, Madonna ranks at No. 12. The only other musical acts to beat Madonna were Taylor Swift and Adele.

As the Inquisitr reported a couple months back, Madonna’s Rebel Heart Tour earned 170 million dollars and helped make her the top-selling musical concert act of all-time. The show also received fantastic reviews from sources like the Guardian, the Los Angeles Times, and the Sydney Morning Herald. In fact, the overall critical success of the tour was higher than any other Madonna tour since she began her road career with The Virgin Tour in 1985.

But this isn’t just about Madonna. This is about a movement by the press to defame women based on their age, their faces, their bodies, and other aspects of their appearance. Madonna can rightfully and legitimately be criticized, but it should have nothing to do with the way she looks.
