Chad Johnson Formally Charged With Domestic Battery
Chad Johnson could be looking at up to one year in jail after being formally charged with domestic battery for an incident in which he allegedly head-butted his wife.
The wide receiver was charged by the Broward State Attorney’s Office on Wednesday for the incident, which allegedly took place after his wife Evelyn Lozada found a receipt for condoms, The Associated Press reported. The accusation led to an argument that spilled over from a restaurant to the couple’s drive home, and once they reached their home Chad Johnson allegedly assaulted his wife.
Johnson was originally arrested last month, but was freed on $2,500 bond.
The marriage between Chad Johnson and Evelyn Lozada was barely a month old when the incident took place, and led to a downward spiral for the receiver formerly known as Ochocinco.
A day after his arrest, Chad Johnson was cut by the Miami Dolphins in an incident that was televised on the HBO program Hard Knocks.
The incident led Lozada, star of the reality show Basketball Wives, to say that Johnson “needs help.” She added that she was deeply disappointed by his behavior and that Johnson refused to take responsibility for his actions.
Apparently, Chad Johnson has had a difficult time getting over his wife of a few weeks. He recently got a tattoo of her face in an attempt to win her back, E! News reported. When fans asked on Twitter why he would do that for a woman who filed for divorce, Chad Johnson made it clear that he doesn’t think it’s over.
“Divorce? Child please… that’s my WIFE,” he tweeted from @ochocinco in response to a question about the tattoo.
Not surprisingly, Chad Johnson has also been dragging his heels on signing the divorce papers. Maybe the domestic battery charge will help move the process along.
