NBC Plans Interactive ‘Takeover’ Of San Diego’s Gaslamp Square During 2016 Comic-Con
NBC and Universal Television will make their presence known during the 2016 Comic-Con in San Diego July 21-24 as they plan an interactive “takeover” of Gaslamp Square, which is located between the Convention Center and the Hard Rock Hotel. “Comic-Con attendees will be treated to three exciting NBC activations, giveaways, photo opportunities, exclusive content and more” states today’s press release from NBC Universal, as reported by Broadway World. Among the scheduled events, guests will do the following.
- Be challenged to save the future (no big deal) when they ride the “Gravitron” and “take a shareable motion graphic photo that captures their time-travel experience.”
- Discover NBC’s new version of the re-imagined Emerald City for the upcoming midseason drama series bearing the same name. The display will take over the Tin Fish restaurant.
- Enjoy free frozen yogurt at The Good Place yogurt shop modeled after the upcoming Ted Danson and Kristen Bell comedy series.
NBC Universal is also sponsoring this year’s official Comic-Con App, which will provide attendees with a dynamic schedule including live updates, an interactive exhibit hall map, panel details, and events. The app will be ready to download from App Store and Google Play by July 14.

The Good Place
Presented at the Hilton Bayfront Indigo Ballroom Thursday, July 21, from 3-4 p.m., The Good Place is an afterlife comedy where Ted Danson shows Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell) her new digs beyond the pearly gates.
NBC’s Description of the Show: “From executive producer Michael Schur and director Drew Goddard comes a smart, unique new comedy that follows Eleanor Shellstrop an ordinary woman who, through an extraordinary string of events, enters the afterlife where she comes to realize that she hasn’t been a very good person. With the help of her wise newfound afterlife mentor, she’s determined to shed her old way of living and discover the awesome (or at least the pretty good) person within.”
Powerless
The Powerless pilot episode and Q&A will be presented in Room 6BCF on Friday, July 22 from 2:30-3:00 p.m. The show stars Vanessa Hudgens, Danny Pudi and Alan Tudyk as insurance adjusters who specialize in coverage from damage caused by super heroes and/or super villains in the DC Comics first comedy TV show.
NBC’s Description of the Show: “Powerless is the story of Emily, a young insurance adjuster specializing in regular-people coverage against damage caused when Super Heroes and Super Villains treat the city like their own personal battleground. Taking care of insurance needs one by one, Emily and her team of co-workers might not have any superpowers but they are out to make a difference in people’s lives and prove that you don’t need to have powers to be powerful!”
Bates Motel
A panel featuring the cast of Bates Motel (Vera Farmiga, Freddie Highmore, Max Thieriot, and Nestor Carbonell) will share what is in store for Season 5 of the show on Friday, July 22, in Room 6A from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Blindspot
A video presentation followed by an Q&A session with Blindspot stars Sullivan Stapleton, Jaimie Alexander, Rob Brown, Audrey Esparza, and Ashley Johnson will be held Saturday, July 23, from 12:00-12:45 p.m.)

A panel featuring the cast of Grimm (David Giuntoli, Russell Hornsby, Bitsie Tulloch, Silas Weir Mitchell, Reggie Lee, Sasha Roiz, Bree Turner, and Claire Coffee) will be presented on Saturday, July 23, from 2:30-3:15 p.m. in Ballroom 20.
NBC’s Description for the Next Season: “The rivalry that has been brewing between Nick Burkhardt and Capt. Sean Renard for five seasons will come to a fever pitch and change everything when “Grimm” returns for its sixth season. Timeless
A presentation about the new time-traveling show, Timeless, will be shown on Saturday, July 23, from 4:15-5:15 p.m. in Room 6A.
