‘Chewbacca Mom’ Candace Payne Continues To Spread Joy With ‘Heal the World’ Cover

Candace Payne, now popularly known as Chewbacca Mom, went viral when she did a Facebook live video of herself trying out a Chewbacca mask she got from Kohl’s back in May. Since then, Payne has received various gifts and prizes and even appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden, where she met J.J. Abrams. Although Payne’s genuine happiness and amazing laugh is what made her go viral, many people don’t know that Payne is also a very talented singer.

Earlier this month, Payne shocked the crowd at an Astros vs. Mariners baseball game when she sang the Star Spangled Banner flawlessly. It turns out that Chewbacca Mom is multitalented, and it was not at all surprising when she decided to use her gifts to try to uplift the world. After the the overwhelming number of violent events that have occurred in the U.S. and around the world in the past week, Payne took to her Facebook page to once again try and spread the joy.

Payne, who lives only a 30 minute drive away from Dallas, Texas, where five officers were killed by a sniper and more were injured, decided to attempt to brighten everyone’s day by performing her own arrangement of Michael Jackson’s song, “Heal the World,” on Facebook live on July 9.

“I am thousands of miles, hundreds of miles away from really identifying with every single ounce of pain that I know is being felt by the whole world right now,” Payne said in her video. “I’ve been spreading joy and I’ve been hoping to do that, but I found myself over the last couple days being silent because I’ve been so sad and so hurt by what’s going on. I wanted to just share with you my own arrangement of a song that I came across that has really meant something amazing to me.”

Although Payne said she was nervous and that playing piano isn’t her first instrument, her performance of Michael Jackson’s song was incredibly heartfelt and heartwarming, and exactly what many people needed to hear. Payne’s simple and honest rendition of the song was so genuine and honest that people immediately felt moved by it. The video already has almost 2.3 million views and has been shared 35,000 times on Facebook. It’s clear that Chewbacca Mom has once again struck a chord with people not only in the U.S., but around the world.

Even though it’s clear Payne really only did this to try to bring some happiness to the world it wouldn’t be surprising if Chewbacca Mom is offered a recording contract soon. Her voice is beautiful and her arrangement was very well done. There’s no doubt that Payne could sing professionally if she chose to do so but for now she seems to be happy just living her life as the Chewbacca Mom.

Since her first video went viral, Payne has become somewhat of an Internet star. She now has over 830,000 followers on Facebook, and over 1,000 Twitter followers. If anyone thought Chewbacca Mom would just be another short-lived viral hit, they were mistaken. Payne continues to stay relevant just by being herself. It seems people are taken by Payne’s genuine positive attitude and happy nature and can’t get enough of her.

Whether or not Payne’s “Heal the World” arrangement is the start of her singing career or just a wonderfully done video that brightened millions of people’s day, Chewbacca Mom has once again gone viral. Whatever she does next this surely will not be the last we see of Candace Payne and we can’t wait to what Chewbacca Mom will do next.
