‘Orange Is The New Black’ Character Lolly Discusses Her Future With The Series [Spoilers]
[Ed. Note: This post may contain spoilers for Season 4 of Orange Is The New Black.]
Orange is the New Black’s new season was heartbreaking, especially for crazy character Lolly. Will she bounce back from the Psych Ward?
Orange is the New Black Season 4 was a phenomenal season, just like its previous seasons. It was darker, sadder, and different levels of crazy for a lot of the characters. OITNB Season 4 tackled a lot of back stories and dug deeper into the newer characters in the series, including Lolly Whitehill, played by actress Lori Petty.
If you’ve binge watched Season 4 like all of us, you probably still haven’t quite gotten back from the heartbreak caused by the episode where Lolly was dragged into the Psych Ward. While she did lend a hand into committing and finishing the murder, it was still pretty devastating to see someone get sent for the first time to the Psych Ward. We’ve been seeing countless inmates at Orange is the New Black getting dragged to Max or to the SHU but this is the first time we’re really sending someone down the crazy unit.

But at the same time, we have seen people who get thrown to SHU or Max brought back to Minimum Security. This only means that people getting sent to the Psych Ward could have the same fate.
Orange is the New Black actress Lori Petty talked to the Hollywood Reporter about her grim fate in the season and talks about what she thinks OITNB has in store for her in the upcoming seasons.

We first met OITNB character Lolly from Season 2 with Piper at the plane. From a passing character, Lolly has become a central figure in Seasons 3 and 4 of Orange is the New Black, and her story brought tears to countless of Orange is the New Black fans all over the world. Did Petty know Psych is going to end up in Psych? The Hollywood Reporter asks her if she and Jenji ever talked about Lolly’s fate and Petty replied as follows.
“No. No. Here’s what I assume — and this is because it’s all about me, right? — we go into psych and Mr. Healy was there and I’m screaming and crying. I did some looping and I saw it and it looked great. Then I realize that they built a huge hallway with rooms and a whole set. So I’m thinking it’s going to be: Psych! Starring Lori Petty! [laughs] I just assumed they’d go to psych, like they go to the SHU. But I’m just making stuff up right now because I don’t know. But I saw the set and that’s what I thought.”
Asked if she thinks we’ll be able to see Lolly again and Petty said the following.
“I certainly hope so. I do think we will. I can’t say for sure, but I absolutely think we will. They are just now filming episode one [of season five] and you know how we ended season four. They have a lot to deal with right now! I’m just waiting on the phone call to get back on the plane. I’m sure it will come, but we have 13 episodes and they’ve got a lot to take care of, so we’ll see.”
A lot of people believe that Lolly ending up in prison, let alone ending up in the Psych Ward, was something she did not deserve. Petty agrees that everything that happened to Lolly in Orange is the New Black was not something the character should have gone through, were the odds aligned in her favor.
“She was failed through elementary and middle and high school. The city failed her and the protect and serve failed her. You are your brother’s keeper, period. You can’t do anything by yourself. Did you build the road? Did you get the gas to the gas station? No. We’re all taking care of each other. People don’t get it. If I can reach you, I’m going to help you. I don’t have to travel to China, I can just go downstairs. So I hope Lolly comes back and we get to see what happens to her.”
Orange is the New Black has been renewed until Season 7. There’s plenty more time to wait for Lolly to return to the show.
