Amazon Prime Day 2016’s Deals Are A Walmart ‘Black Friday Killer’ For Segway, TV, Xbox One/PS4 Bundles, Kindle, And More Sales [Preview]
On Tuesday, July 12, Amazon will be holding a special sale that many online shoppers will most likely take advantage of. This is when the popular online website will hold Amazon Prime Day 2016.
For those who are unfamiliar what Amazon Prime Day 2016 is, it is a 24-hour extravaganza in which the website provides deals exclusively for Amazon Prime members. In the past, some of the deals many online shoppers have hoped for included Amazon’s TV deals, Segway deals, Xbox One bundles, Playstation 4 bundles, and Kindle Deals. That is just a tip of the iceberg of savings many have expected thus they have touted the Amazon Prime Day deals as a killer of Black Friday, a day often recognized as having the best deals around. As a matter of fact, Amazon Prime Day deals are perceived to outshine any of Walmart’s Black Friday deals, which are often recognized as the best back in the past.

With the aforementioned in mind, what deals are we expecting for Amazon Prime Day 2016? According to an official press release by Amazon, the first four Amazon Prime Day 2016 deals are as follows.
- Segway miniPRO — Smart Self-Balancing Personal Transporter (save 20 percent)
- LunoWear Men’s Wood Watch (save 35 percent)
- LSTN Headphones and Speakers (save up to 50 percent)
- Fayebeline Boutique Baby Clothing (save 20 percent)
The deals provided above are quite interesting, but they are surely not what most online shoppers would expect for Amazon Prime Day 2016. In past Amazon Prime Days, Amazon provided a lengthy list of deals especially in electronics, televisions, video games, and computers. So why did Amazon only release four deals that will most likely be taken advantage among shoppers who have a preference for such products?
Apparently, Amazon wants to promote more products from sellers and small businesses this year as a way to bring more attention to brands most people may not know about. Peter Faricy, the vice president of Amazon Marketplace, provided a statement on how this model for Amazon Prime Day 2016 will assist small businesses in preparation for the upcoming holiday season.
“Prime Day is great for customers and sellers. Customers have the opportunity to support small businesses by purchasing unique products at a great price with fast, free shipping, and it helps sellers prepare for the upcoming holiday season by providing feedback and more customer reviews on their new and top selling products.”
However, the promotion of small businesses and sellers is not the only reason why they released only four deals. According to Best Black Friday, the other reason is to be counter-intuitive against competition undercutting their prices. In past Amazon Prime Days, Amazon would release the full list of all their sales and deals that would often rival or even surpass many Black Friday deals. Walmart and many other major retailers wised up to Amazon Prime Day and would often provide better deals. This year, Amazon is not going to sit back, but it would be safe to say that not providing deals on at least premium electronics would be bad business for them.
Eric Jones of Best Black Friday provided details on what they expect will be the deals during Amazon Prime Day 2016 utilizing historic sales of previous Amazon Prime Days.
“TVs are going to be huge this year. During last year’s Prime Day, Amazon offered a 32? HDTV for $75 and a 40? HDTV for $115, both of which were the lowest prices that we had ever seen at the time. During Black Friday last year, Amazon offered a 50? HDTV for only $150. With Amazon already stating that they will be offering double the number of TVs that were available on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, we expect to see prices similar to those.”
Other deals Eric Jones of Best Black Friday expects will be available during Amazon Prime Day 2016 include video game consoles and their Amazon Kindle.
“While last year’s Prime Day lacked video game console deals, we think there will be various discounts on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Here is what we are thinking based off of Black Friday pricing and recent sales:
- Xbox One Bundles starting at $250
- Playstation 4 Bundles starting at $300
Amazon’s own product line (Kindle Paperwhite, Kindle for Kids, Fire 7-inch Tablet, Fire TV Stick) are going to be featured sale items. Amazon always pushes their product line on big sales, and Prime Day 2016 will be no different. Expect to see the Fire TV Stick for around $25 and the Kindle Paperwhite for around $100.”
Eric Jones also stated it is best for online shoppers to download the Amazon App for their smartphone. It is expected that Amazon Prime Day deals are going to sell out quickly. With the Amazon App, shoppers will see upcoming deals and receive alerts.
It should be noted that everything mentioned above is what is expected from researching current and past deals not only on Amazon, but also other shopping sites too. If the four deals Amazon announced do not tickle one’s fancy, Amazon does have deals each day leading up to Amazon Prime Day 2016 called Prime Day Countdown Deals. Today marks the first day in which they are featuring “Gadgets on the Go.”
