Nancy Grace broke the news to her staff last week, some of whom have been with her since the early 1990s when she co-hosted the CNN show Court TV with the late Johnny Cochran. Grace announced her departure to her staff of 18 via a video conference call. As you can imagine, they were shocked and in disbelief that their run with her was coming to a close.
HLN told the Hollywood Reporter that they plan to utilize the current team with a new host and rebrand the show with a new name. The revamped program will air following Nancy Grace’s final episode airing on October 13. Apparently, Nancy has struggled with the decision to step away from the HLN news program for the past three years and ultimately decided now is the time to make a significant change in her life. Grace admitted she has “mixed feelings” about leave her show, but feels “it is the right decision” for her at this time in her life.
“Nancy has worked tirelessly on behalf of the missing and exploited for more than a decade on HLN. She gave a voice to the voiceless, and we are extremely grateful for her contributions to the network. During her remarkable career at HLN, she led the coverage of two of this century’s most talked about and infamous trials, Casey Anthony and Jodi Arias. We will always be champions of Nancy’s mission and are excited to see what’s next for her.”

Nancy’s ratings are nowhere near the powerhouse they once were, but sources report the falling ratings did not play into her decision to walk away. Just a few years ago, she raked in almost five million viewers when Casey Anthony’s not guilty verdict was read. Even so, Grace is still the most watched and talked about HLN personality on the network, averaging 300,000 viewers per show.
Grace revealed that she doesn’t plan on taking a break, and her new outlet will “involve a large digital component.”
“I will always be wedded to a traditional platform — which is TV, God help me. My plan is to merge those two in an effective way, in my voice, the ‘anti-crime’ voice. Our show has never really been about me. It has been about the stories that we tell and the people we talk about and the mysteries we try to solve and the children we try to bring home. There’s an entire section of our population that I want to reach.”
