The Spice Girls Announce Tour With A Catch, A Name Change And Two Members Down [Video]
The Spice Girls have answered the call of their fans and are giving them what they “really, really want,” kind of. The girls are getting set to embark on their 20th anniversary reunion tour, announcing in a video clip on YouTube yesterday that they are excited to bring some of their biggest hits back to the stage. However, there are a couple of catches.

As it turns out, neither Mel C (Sporty Spice) nor Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice) will grace the crowds with their presence on the tour, seeing as neither member wanted to relive the pop star era.
Additionally, the girls have changed their name. Using the first initial of each remaining girl’s name, the performers decided on the new title, GEM (Gerri, Emma, Mel). The three ladies gave a shout out to their fans via the YouTube clip they posted yesterday.

“We’ve been thinking… We have the best fans in the entire world,” the ladies say in the video posted last night. You’ve stood by us for 20 years, and we wanna say a big thank you. We’ve had our ups and downs, but you’ve always been there. And we wanna celebrate and have a party. And when we do… You’re all invited!”
The video concludes with the girls stating that they will share more news soon enough, but prior to that, they’ll be “pouring one out for Posh and Sporty,” as Refinery 29 shares.
There are no dates officially set as of yet, but it was recently shared with the tabloids that the three remaining Spice Girls have booked a date in Hyde Park in a year’s time, next July.
Additionally, three may become four if Melanie Jayne Chisholm can be convinced to get on board. She is reportedly still undecided at the moment. The Independent notes Sporty Spice’s words on the subject:
“I am keeping tight-lipped. There are lots of discussions going on. Right now I am in the studio working on my own album, and that is my focus. I’m taking it slowly.”
At least if Mel C got on board, the new name could still be of use! As for Victoria Beckham, the now-fashion designer and mother of four has yet to comment. Her rep, however, did make a statement on the beauty’s behalf.
“Victoria has been very respectful about the fabulous time they had together in the past, however, her focus is now very much her family and fashion business.”
It wasn’t all that long ago that the entire group made an appearance and spiced up the audience’s life. The five group members gave a lively performance at the closing ceremony of the 2012 summer Olympics in London. The Spice Girls sang “Wannabe” and “Spice Up Your Life” to the enthusiastic crowd.
Recently, the “Wannabe” anthem received a feminist makeover that focuses on girls of various parts of the world sharing what it is they “really, really want.” Take a look at the new version of the catchy tune, below.
The Spice Girls first joined forces back in 1994 and experienced massive success in 1996 with their smash hit “Wannabe.” The single hit the top spot in 37 countries around the world. This led to a huge fan base and following, while the girls continued to put out consistent catchy hits to please the crowds at shows. The Spice Girls were celebrated for their range of vocal talents and ability to put on memorable and entertaining performances.
