Ariel Winter, Cleavage-Versus-Talent Icon, Slams Body-Shamers For Robbing Her Of Self-Esteem
Ariel Winter, whose cleavage, she claims, has overshadowed her talents as an actress, hit back at body-shamers with an Instagram photo of herself in a bikini on Monday, July 4, 2016. The Modern Family star who gained worldwide attention for her breast reduction surgery on June 4 last year, downgrading from a size 32F cup to a 34D, celebrated the Fourth of July with friends and family, sharing their outing online.
According to People, Ariel recently split from her longtime boyfriend Laurent Claude Gaudette while she was busy graduating from high school, preparing to attend UCLA in the fall and completing her new movie, Dog Years. It was in the midst of all these pressures that Winter took some time off to celebrate the Fourth of July at Monarch Bay Private Beach Club, the cleavage and derrière-baring place in Dana Point, California.
Through Instagram, Ariel messaged “#fireworks #family #friends #beach”, and “Oh yeah…and that’s a wrap on #DogYears!!!! Love every single one of you with all of my heart- thank you for making this experience so amazing and memorable”. In case “people just haven’t gotten it yet” about her breakup with Gaudette, Winter of cleavage fame also tweeted the following.
“I’m like dropping hints that I’m single.”
Us Weekly recently reported that 18-year-old Ariel Winter unburdened herself in a March interview with Good Morning America about how media types obsessing with her body were drawing attention away from her achievements as an actress. It was a repeat of past statements she’d made regarding online chatter around her cleavage and curves.“Walking down the red carpet and seeing the photos afterward and having every headline be about my cleavage and not about my talent. Not about, ‘Oh, if they liked the dress.’ Not about what I was really there for or anything that I wanted to be put out there. And I thought that was really disappointing that everybody nowadays in the media, what we’re talking about is the way people look.”
Ariel told Good Morning America‘s Amy Robach about the toll on her self-esteem by insensitive comments about her physical attributes. Winter’s having to contend with chatter about her cleavage was, in her mind, comparable to the uneasy experience of other celebrities who live in the public eye.
“And it’s really hard, because people don’t think that I read comments… And I guess it maybe seems like we don’t have feelings or we’re, like, invincible. But we’re really not.”

At the 22nd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on January 30, 2016, in Los Angeles, Ariel showed off her scars from her 2015 breast reduction surgery. Winter reasoned that refusing to cover up her scars was her way of slamming back at body-shamers. She’d had enough of their preoccupation with her cleavage over her ability as an actress, and she tweeted this of the scars.
“They are part of me and I’m not ashamed of them at all. :)”
Afterwards, Ariel lashed back at people who criticized her for showing “too much skin” at her high school graduation party. Winter, who wore a form-fitting minidress with what they referred to as an “underboob-baring cutout” for the important event, fired off an Instagram retort to their obsession with her cleavage.
According to ET online, Ariel shared a photo from her graduation party on Instagram, where she sported a form-fitting, pink cut-out dress that bared generous amounts of skin. The end result was that Winter faced blowback from haters who panned her for wearing a dress they thought inappropriately revealing. Others criticized her for offering up too much cleavage.“Dear sorry body-shamers, I looked HOT in that dress. And if you hate it, don’t buy it. But please get a hobby. XOXO Ariel #EmbraceYourBody.”
Ariel has shown her determination to let her critics know that they cannot keep her from loving herself and how she looks. To press her point, she also tweeted out a photo of herself in a white midriff-baring top unapologetic about her cleavage, and a pair of skin-tight jeans around curvy hip and thigh. She used this caption.
“Embrace all that you are. Don’t let those outside voices become your inner voice #mychoice #loveyourcurves.”
Ariel shared an inspirational message by her friend and assistant, Davina Adjani, about upholding one’s value “in a day [and] age in which Photoshop is there to remind you how you are not so-called perfect.” Though pilloried for flaunting her cleavage and curves, Winter was unapologetic, adding her own statement alongside Adjani’s.
“Know your value. Remember who you are. Love yourself. You’re perfect.”

Fourth of July came just a couple of days after Ariel finished shooting her upcoming movie, Dog Years, in which she plays the part of a disturbed young woman. Winter dyed her hair red and put on nose rings to go with faux tattoos, unabashed cleavage and booty shorts.
The role seems to go well with Ariel Winter’s attitude of defiance in real life as she steadfastly maintains a positive outlook over her much maligned cleavage.
