Tom Hiddleston Loses Out On James Bond Role Because Of Public Romance With Taylor Swift [Report]
Tom Hiddleston may just have lost out on his chance to become James Bond because of his whirlwind romance with Taylor Swift.
According to reports, James Bond producers have seen the numerous snaps of Tom and Swift flaunting their love around the globe, including candid shots in Rhode Island, Nashville, Suffolk, England, and Rome, and feel that Tom is now too public to take on the prestigious role of James Bond.
“Tom’s cool performance in The Night Manager saw him as a late contender for 007, but initial talks have come to an end,” a source close to the James Bond franchise told The Sun this week, suggesting that Hiddleston’s chances of becoming the next 007 are now seriously slim following his very public romance with Swift.
“Bond needs an air of mystery,” the insider noted, “[Tom’s] public romance with Taylor has made him totally uncastable.”
The latest round of reports claiming that Hiddleston is no longer in the running to become the next James Bond follows months of speculation that the actor was one of the frontrunners to land the role.
The site birthmoviesdeath.com reported back in May, just weeks before Tom and Taylor went public with their romance, that Hiddleston was in “advanced talks to take over the role of James Bond from Daniel Craig” after impressing executives with his performance in the mini-series The Night Manager.
The site claimed to have spoken to a source close to Tom, who confirmed that talks were happening, but made it clear that Hiddleston had not been offered the role at that point.
“Choosing words carefully, our source confirms that while talks have indeed taken place,” the site claimed, adding that “Hiddleston very much wants the job” but “no official offer has been made – yet.”
Tom Hiddleston later spoke out about the swirling Bond rumors shortly before revealing his romance with Taylor Swift to the world, where he played coy about reports suggesting that he was in talks to become the British spy.“I don’t think that announcement is coming, but I am very gratified to hear the enthusiasm,” Tom admitted according to The Telegraph. “Your guess is as good as mine, to be honest.”
However, the reports now claiming that Tom’s hopes of becoming Bond have been scrapped because of Hiddleston’s very public romance come amid other reports that suggested Hiddleston believed dating a high-profile star like Taylor could be the very thing to land him the role.
Hollywood Life even reported last week that Hiddleston felt that dating Swift was a “huge power play” that could put him ahead of other rumored contenders like Idris Elba.
“Tom is making a huge power play dating Taylor in his quest to be the next James Bond,” a source said of Hiddleston earlier this month. “Tom’s not silly – he knows by hooking up with Taylor he will give himself the best opportunity in securing the part.”“A romance with arguably the biggest pop star on the planet will guarantee you huge coverage and that can only strengthen his hand in getting the role,” the site’s insider continued of Tom relationship with the “Shake It Off” singer. “This will certainly make him clear favorite now.”
The site also claimed that Bond’s producers weren’t too worried about hiring a star who’s private life isn’t that private, even claiming that those behind-the-scenes of the franchise were looking for someone to play James who would bring a lot of publicity to the role in the U.S.
James Bond producers “are desperate for the next Bond to be a universal name that will boost the brand worldwide, especially in America,” the source alleged.
