Uncontrollably Fond Star Bae Suzy Reveals Her True Self
Uncontrollably Fond is ready for release on July 6, and the fans of K-drama are counting on the show to become a phenomenal blockbuster. Across Asia, K-drama lovers are waiting with bated breath to catch the on-screen romance between Bae Suzy and Kim Woo-bin. The Korean miniseries will conclude on September 8.
Uncontrollably Fond is touted to be the next Descendants of the Sun, the South Korean military drama that swayed K-pop lovers across the world.
Although the settings of these two dramas are different, they share one commonality: They are both love stories starring two adorable characters.
What’s more intriguing about the plot is that Uncontrollably Fond is a high school reunion romance—much relevant in today’s age of social media where former flames get together to begin a new life. Like any other romance, Uncontrollably Fond too is filled with deception, lies and love triangles.
Bae Suzy plays No Eul, a documentary producer, while Kim Woo-bin plays Shin Joon-young, a renowned actor and singer.

Bae Suzy, in an interview to All K-Pop, said that her character No Eul is a reflection of her true self.
“No Eul was a meddlesome and righteous child. She was someone who lived for others despite having to make sacrifices but after going through some things, she changed after a reality check. Currently, she is a bit of a sycophant and a snob, and I related to that change very much,” Uncontrollably Fond star Bae Suzy told All K-Pop.
“Everyone has different sides them, and we’re constantly changing. I wanted to express that point in a charismatic and concrete way [through my acting]. As I was reading the script, I thought, ‘Ah, this [role] is mine,’ and decided to take on the role,” said Bae Suzy who shot to fame as a member of top girl group Miss A in 2010.
This isn’t the first time that Uncontrollably Fond star Bae Suzy is painting a portrait of her own self.

In the Korean movie The Sound of a Flower, Bae Suzy plays Jin Chae-seon, the first woman in Korean history who performed pansori — a traditional Korean art that blends singing with theater. The movie revolves around how Jin Chae-seon broke the glass ceiling in conservative the Joseon era.
“I’m Jin Chae-seon in the movie, but I think for a lot of people, my story overlaps with hers,” Bae said in an interview with Korea Herald. She said that her struggles were similar to Chae-seon’s efforts to become a pansori performer.
“Of course, I didn’t have to go through the same historical situation. No one told me I couldn’t (become a singer) because I was a girl, but my parents were against the idea,” Bae Suzy said.

Just like Chae-seon, Bae Suzy faced a lot of problems when she began training with pansori singer Shin Jae-hyo (Ryu Seung-ryong).
“Some scenes make me choke up every time I see them, like the scene where Chae-seon is practicing voice projection in the rain, and she collapses,” she said.
“When people are training to become singers, they all have moments when they hit a wall. In those moments they just drop to the floor and cry a lot,” Bae Suzy remarked.
For the K-drama romance Uncontrollably Fond, Bae Suzy has also released a song ‘Ring My Bell.’

While fans have high hopes for the Uncontrollably Fond K-drama which will air at 10 pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays, one has to wait and watch if Kim Woo-bin and Bae Suzy can surpass the performance of Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo from the most sought-after K-drama miniseries Descendants of the Sun.
