Rob Lowe Is Making His Way Back To TV, Actor Is Joining The Cast Of ‘Code Black’

It sure didn’t take very long for Rob Lowe to return to the small screen this time around. He is all set to join the cast of Code Black in its upcoming second season. He will be playing the role of a military doctor who is sure to cause some ruckus over at Angels Memorial. His first appearance will be on the season premiere on Wednesday, September 28, on CBS.

Lowe’s new character, Colonel Ethan Willis, will apparently come to the teaching hospital to test everyone’s patience. According to TV Line, this new doc will come straight from a hospital in Afghanistan to do some combat medicine teaching at Angels. As a doctor that is part of the U.S. military’s prestigious Combat Casualty Care research program, he will walk through the doors on Code Black with an aggressive attitude and will not be afraid of breaking the rules.

This new physician is expected to fit right in with Dr. Leanne Rorish, played by actress Marcia Gay Harden, as she has definitely broken many rules as seen in Season 1. However, the other doctors on staff may not be quite as enthusiastic.

Rob Lowe has just come off of his recently canceled show on Fox, The Grinder, in which he played the role of a lawyer in his family practice. The show only lasted for one season, but the 52-year-old actor was happy that he was able to take part in the 22 episodes that were aired before the cancellation took place. He also got nominated for a Golden Globe earlier this year for his role as Dean Sanderson.

Lowe had prompted some excitement on the Fourth of July when he sent out a post on his Instagram stating that he had some exciting news coming. Many of his fans thought that maybe The Grinder was coming back to television, but it is not what they thought it was. However, Rob will still be on the small screen every week, just on a different show.

Code Black had taken some heat last month after they announced that two of their leading actors would be exiting the show. Despite the fact that they got a renewal for a second season, execs had decided to revamp a bit and that included letting go of both Bonnie Somerville and Raza Jaffrey. They played the on-screen couple Neal and Christa, who were favorites among viewers. Deadline had reported that these two would not be returning and that part of the plan was to have more of a younger cast on board for the second season.

Even though Rob Lowe is holding his age quite well, he isn’t exactly a spring chicken either. He could actually have been brought in as a potential love interest for Dr. Rorish, in addition to adding star power to the medical drama.

Along with Rob Lowe coming on board, TV Line also reported that a few other new cast members will be filing in through the hospital doors at Angels. Recurring roles have been added for Heroes star Noah Gray-Cabey, One Life To Live actress Nafessa Williams, and Flesh and Bone star Emily Tyra. These three are set to be the latest ER residents who are expected to bring some of their own flair to the show.

Of course, medical emergencies aren’t the only thing that occurs on Code Black. There is plenty of personal drama as well that is always incorporated into this CBS drama. It sounds like the character that Rob Lowe will be playing will fit right in.

The actor has had a long list of roles including St. Elmo’s Fire, The West Wing, and Dr. Vegas. So, he has had some experience playing the role of a physician, but he better brush up on his skills because it has been a few years since he has used his fake medical expertise.
