‘Keeping Up With The Joneses’ Gives Gal Gadot Something New [Video]
While Gal Gadot has been around for sometime now, having starred in The Fast & The Furious films, starting in 2009, she’s only recently made a name for herself with her portrayal as DC Entertainment’s Wonder Woman. Regardless of which franchise Gadot’s fands recognize her from, it seems apparent that action and drama have made up the bulk of Gal’s roles, which may explain the enthusiasm with which Gadot takes on her new role in the comedy, Keeping Up with the Joneses. Promoting the Greg Mottola comedy, Gal explains why she was so eager to explore a funnier side to her personality.
Keeping Up With The Joneses Brings Spying To The Suburbs
Fox’s Keeping Up with the Joneses brings Isla Fisher and Zach Galifianakis together as a married couple who feel compelled to begin spying on their new neighbors, because, as The Hollywood Reporter points out, Jon Hamm and Gal Gadot play the perfectly attractive new couple in the neighborhood. The not-so-neighborly spying antics carried out by Fisher and Galifianakis soon leads to some heavy action and danger for the couple, including car chases, shoot outs, and concealed surveillance devices.
Isla and Zach play the typically nosy neighbors, as a younger, very attractive couple moves into their surburban neighborhood and, before long, Isla’s character decides that there’s not something quite right about the Joneses, played by Gadot and Hamm, so she enlists her husband in spying on the couple. When their antics are discovered, Natalie and Tim Jones draws Galifianakis and Fisher into the high-tech and highly perilous world of espionage, though it’s never really disclosed for which side the Joneses are playing. The trailer cleverly avoids revealing whether the Joneses work for the U.S. government or some outside force, though the accents employed by Jon and Gal in their roles suggest that they may not have been American born.
Gal Gadot Gets To Explore Her Acting Range With Comedy In Keeping Up With The Joneses
In a new interview with Collider, Gal Gadot revealed that her fellow filmmaking professionals aren’t quite as eager to explore comedy as she is, herself. The Wonder Woman actress revealed that she shared the news of her Keeping Up with the Joneses role with the director on another dramatic film, but the news was met with more discouragement than the enthusiasm for which she had hoped.
“I was telling the director I worked with that I’m doing a comedy,” recalls Ms. Gadot. “He was like, ‘Oh my God. Are you sure?’ I said, ‘Of course! That’s what I’ve been waiting for, something different.’ I love to make fun of myself. He was like, ‘Well, good luck, Gal. Because that’s going to be the hardest thing.’ Everything is just so much fun that I hope it’s going to show on screen.”
Ms. Gadot loves her role as Wonder Woman because it provides her an opportunity to show her three-year-old daughter that women can do anything and chase whatever dreams they may have, but at the same time, Gal says she hopes to do more comedies. The Keeping Up with the Joneses star says she’s hoping for more lead roles in funny movies.
“I love comedy. I love it, I love it. I love what I do, and up to this day I was very lucky to be working with great people that I had chemistry with, in Fast and Furious, and Batman v Superman. I’m always lucky,” says Gal.
“But there’s something different working on a comedy set because it’s not about … it’s all about who’s going to deliver the best punch, who’s going to make us laugh harder. It’s hilarious and such an amazing experience; I’m having the time of my life.”
In Keeping Up with the Joneses, Gadot plays Natalie, who is more of a straight character with a concentration on the action and the less comical aspects of the story. While Ms. Gadot did have a good time with the role, she says she hopes it will open up the door for her to play funnier characters in the future.
Gal says everyone on the cast of Keeping Up with the Joneses was fantastic. She says that she had great fun with everyone and adds that she learned quite a bit about filming a comedy, particularly from Zach Galifianakis. She also reveals that she developed a new girl crush as a result of working on Keeping Up with the Joneses.
“I have a girl crush on Isla,” confesses Gal Gadot. “I’m very happy that she made the transition to being Jewish so now we can actually get married. No, I love her.”
