One Direction: Harry Styles Is Flying High Whilst Louis Tomlinson Gets Mad
One Direction star Harry Styles has every reason to feel on top of the world this week whilst bandmate Louis Tomlinson would be forgiven for getting a little tetchy. With One Direction on hiatus it seems that Styles and Tomlinson are taking a very different approach to their break. Harry is busily riding the crest of a wave while Tomlinson is getting more than a little fed up with the paparazzi and getting set for a court battle with Briana Jungwirth.
It has been widely reported, including by the Daily Mail, that Styles has signed a mega-deal with Columbia records to release three solo albums. It seems that Styles has turned down approaches from a host of labels, including Apple Music, to stick with Columbia, the label that released all five of One Direction’s hit albums. Interest in Harry has been huge and the 22-year-old’s popularity sparked a huge bidding war, which ultimately led to Styles signing a deal reportedly worth an astronomical $80 million.
There has never been any doubt that Styles would be hot property and Columbia, a subsidiary of Sony, was desperate to hold onto their prized asset. Indeed, Sony made it clear last August that they were desperate to hang on to Harry who they described as a “global superstar.”
“Harry has always been One Direction’s most popular member and it’s obvious that we want to secure him. He’s a global superstar.
“Everyone wants to know what his solo material will sound like, there’s also a lot of pressure to get it right. Harry is a smart guy and is really good at surrounding himself with talented people.”
Styles has already registered a number of songs with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, but as yet, there is no indication as to when solo material will be released. Styles fans will need to wait for a little while as Harry is currently filming for Christopher Nolan’s World War Two epic Dunkirk.
Rumors that Styles will play Mick Jagger in a biopic of the Rolling Stones star are gaining pace. The Independent could not resist dissing Harry when they urge you to remember that unlike Styles, “Mick Jagger actually wrote many of his own songs, created a unique style, and was in a band with good music.”
It is likely that both Styles and One Direction fans will sneer at the Independent’s snide comment, after all, Harry is a member of one of the world’s most popular bands and Columbia just backed him to the tune of $80 million.

Whilst Styles’ popularity seems set to land him in a hugely advantageous position with regards to his future career, bandmate Tomlinson is concentrating on matters closer to home. Earlier this week it was reported in the Inquisitr that Tomlinson was less than happy to be followed around town by paparazzi who were trying to get a quote on One Direction’s future. Tomlinson’s response was hilarious. A laughing Louis snatched the paparazzi’s cell phone and passed it through a car window to a passing motorist.
Predictably some outlets, including J-14, saw Louis prank as an opportunity to do a bit of Tomlinson bashing as they accused him of “stealing” the phone. Tomlinson and the rest of One Direction will realize that media coverage is a key element in the success of any band and that there is a price to pay for that coverage. All too often that price is the loss of privacy. Tomlinson will be well used to having the paparazzi on his trail, but it seems that Louis is not happy to allow his family to pay the same price.

Tomlinson rarely comments on anything that might be deemed controversial, but according to People magazine, Tomlinson has released a statement pleading for privacy for his 5-month-old son Freddie. Tomlinson feels that little Freddie is entitled to “have a normal, private and protected childhood,” something that is inhibited by paparazzi photographers.
“The persistent and increasing levels of paparazzi and media intrusions into Freddie’s life of late are not only posing potential security issues but are also crucially invading the privacy to which Freddie is undoubtedly entitled as a child, the levels of paparazzi attention on Freddie are intolerable and completely unjustifiable.”
The request from Tomlinson comes amid reports that Louis and Briana Jungwirth are set to head to the courts to sort out custody arrangements. Tomlinson reportedly feels that Jungwirth has been inconsistent with regards to his access to Freddie and as a result he wants joint custody.
