WWE News: Jerry Lawler Suspension Lifted, Cleared Of Charges

The WWE announced a Jerry Lawler suspension immediately upon hearing that Lawler was arrested in connection with a domestic violence charge in his home. The WWE made it clear that they take all domestic violence charges seriously and the suspension proved that even a legend like Jerry Lawler was not exempt from their rules.
However, TMZ reported that all the charges against both Jerry Lawler and his fiancé, Lauryn McBride, were dropped in court on Friday morning. According to the website, no one could tell who the aggressor in the case was and they arrested both of the individuals. TMZ reported that charges against both were dropped, possibly because there were no injuries and neither side wanted to testify against the other. According to Lawler’s attorney, the entire thing was a misunderstanding.
With the charges dropped, the Jerry Lawler suspension is also rumored to have been lifted immediately by the WWE. Numerous wrestling sites have reported that the WWE Jerry Lawler suspension is over with, including Pro Wrestling Sheet, which reported that they received the word straight from a representative from the WWE. The rep said that the suspension was lifted effective immediately since the legal matters were resolved.
This is good news for Jerry Lawler, as well as fans of SmackDown. While Lawler grew very stale as an announcer for years, the minute he returned to being a heel announcer alongside Mauro Ranallo, his career seemed revitalized. Instead of being a cheesy face commentator making stupid jokes, he was more at ease as a heel insulting just about anyone and everyone. David Otunga replaced Lawler while he was facing the legal problems.

However, one has to wonder about the entire situation. In the original arrest report, Lauryn McBride said Lawler gave her a gun and told her to kill herself. Jerry said that he never did that and it was Lauryn who brought the gun into the situation. The entire thing sounded dangerous and deadly and the WWE might consider caution when bringing Lawler back into the company. They already have the Chris Benoit tragedy from the past hanging over them.
It also doesn’t help that the Jerry Lawler suspension brought back memories of the past where Lawler had been accused of other unsavory things with women, including allegations of cavorting with minors. In 1993, Lawler was indicted on charges of allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl, but What Culture reported that the girl backed off and said she made up the allegations. However, it is still a black eye that hangs over Lawler to this day.
If the Jerry Lawler suspension was lifted immediately, he should be back on the road next week for the WWE SmackDown tapings and should be available for the WWE brand split draft as well in a few weeks. Wrestle Zone joined the mix to report that the WWE also told them that the Jerry Lawler suspension was lifted immediately as well. There is no word yet as to whether the court just released the two of all charges or asked them to seek counseling.
What is important is that Jerry Lawler will have his every move studied under a microscope after these events. The WWE has been very clear that they are taking no nonsense from wrestlers and superstars. The Roman Reigns suspension is proof of that. The fact that Jerry was under a major spotlight in mainstream media is also something that the WWE can’t like. While the Jerry Lawler suspension may be lifted immediately, Lawler will want to be careful in the future or the suspension could turn into a WWE release the next time something like this happens.
