‘Wreck-It Ralph 2’ Coming In 2018 From Disney — Ralph Wrecks The Internet
Disney’s 2012 animated film Wreck-It Ralph is going to be getting a sequel. Anyone who is a fan of the first film can be excited to expect its sequel, Wreck-It Ralph 2, to hit theaters March 9, 2018, reports Deadline.

The announcement was made today on Facebook, from the director of the first film Rich Moore, the film’s screenwriter Phil Johnston, and the voice of Ralph himself John C. Reilly. It looks like Reilly and Sarah Silverman, who voiced Vanellope von Schweetz in the first film, will be returning for the sequel.
“From the moment we started working on the first Wreck-It Ralph, we knew there were so many possibilities with these characters,” said Moore. “This time, Ralph’s wrecking wreaks havoc on the web, as only he can do. Characters we loved in the first film are back, and we are ecstatic to be working with them — and the actors who voice them — once again.”
Wreck-It Ralph 2 is going to feature Ralph and Vanellope trekking through the internet, as opposed to making their way through different video games in the first film.

“The world of the internet is the perfect place to send Ralph and Vanellope,” says Johnston. “The scope and scale are so vast and the possibilities for comedy are endless.”
Wreck-It Ralph ended up grossing $471,222,889 at the worldwide box office, and was nominated for both a Golden Globe and an Academy Award.
What is really exciting about this announcement is that everyone involved in the first film is going to return for Wreck-It Ralph 2. Zootopia, that ridiculously well-received and financially successful animated film that came out earlier this year, was directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore. Upon learning that, it’s no surprise how this film and 2012’s Wreck-It Ralph were so well-received. Johnston was also a writer on Zootopia.
A screenplay for a Wreck-It Ralph sequel was already being worked on directly after Wreck-It Ralph had been released. So, it turns out that this is actually a project Moore has been working on for nearly four years. In an interview with Collider, Moore reveals that writer Phil Johnston will be a co-director on the sequel, as the first film encompassed so much of his voice. So with their track record, we can expect that this sequel will be just as good, if not better, than the original. Zootopia will more than likely be nominated for at least one Academy Award next year.

“We’re boarding the movie,” Moore told Collider. “We’ve been doing that since around the time that Zootopia was released. So we’re right in the thick of storyboarding the film right now.”
The first film managed to feature a large number of characters from existing video game properties, with a number of cameos. We’re talking about characters and villains from Capcom, Sega, Nintendo and Konami, as well as more. Frogger, King Bowser, Sonic the Hedgehog, several characters from Street Fighter, and a mention of Mario.
This makes plenty of fans wonder what could be in store for Ralph and Vanellope von Schweetz, now that they’ll be taking over the internet. What kind of video game character cameos could appear in the film, and will they still be a nod to retro, classic gaming consoles? Earlier this year, Moore has hinted at the possibility of including Mario in the Wreck-It Ralph sequel.
“In the first one we didn’t have Mario in that movie, so it would be great to have the great Mario in a second one if we did it,” Moore told IGN.
Wreck-It Ralph 2 is expected to hit theaters March 9, 2018. Disney’s Gigantic, which originally had the March 2018 release date, has been moved to November 21, 2018.
