Suge Knight Suing Chris Brown Over 1OAK Nightclub Shooting In 2014
Former hip-hop mogul Suge Knight most recently had a legal battle with an old associate from his past, Dr. Dre, claiming the producer tried to have him murdered at a West Hollywood club. Now, according to USA Today, it looks like Suge Knight is suing Chris Brown after Knight was shot at the same West Hollywood nightclub 1OAK in 2014.
Suge Knight filed this suit on Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court against Chris Brown, fellow singer Pia Mia Perez, and the owners of the 1OAK nightclub. Knight insists that there should have been better security at this celebrity-filled party, which was being hosted by Chris Brown and Perez. This took place on the eve of the MTV Video Music Awards in August of 2014. In the lawsuit, Knight claims Brown is a “known gang associate.”

Suge Knight received seven gunshot wounds that night and wants Brown and 1OAK to pay for all of the medical expenses. Jamal Tooson, Knight’s attorney, states that his client should have been made aware of anyone entering the premises with a weapon, and that negligence led to Knight being severely injured.
“As a result of the negligence of the defendants, one or more unknown individuals were allowed access to the event with weapons, including firearms,” according to the lawsuit. “As a foreseeable result, gunshots were fired by those admitted into the event and (Knight) was shot and seriously injured.”
Suge Knight is currently in prison on murder and attempted murder charges for running over two men with his car in the parking lot of the Compton fast-food joint Tam’s Burgers. This was located near a promo shoot that was taking place for the N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton, just one year after the 1OAK nightclub shooting. Suge also ended up alleging that Dr. Dre was involved in the 2014 shooting and conspiring with the sheriff’s department to have Knight killed.
“I was dancing with one of my friends,” eyewitness Katie Clendon told the Daily Beast. “My other friend called us over to the table she was at directly across the way. As I was turning around and walking away from Chris Brown’s table, I heard three loud bangs. Everyone dropped to the floor, and then immediately after evacuated. One of the men who was shot rushed past me holding his shoulder and dripping blood. Everyone was screaming and trying to get out of there as quickly as possible. The cops were immediately on the scene as we were leaving 1OAK. We saw a man being carried out on a stretcher, then we were asked to leave the area immediately.”
This was not the only time Suge Knight has been shot at a nightclub and not the first time he sued a rapper in the process. In 2010, Knight was shot in the right leg in August of 2005 at the Shore Club in Miami. Coincidentally, this also took place prior to that year’s MTV Video Music Awards, which was going to be hosted by Kanye West. Ye was also hosting the party at Shore Club, and Suge alleged that West and the owners of the nightclub failed to provide adequate security that night.

As far as Chris Brown goes, this current lawsuit certainly isn’t helping his already troubled career. Brown is still dealing with a bad public perception due to his vicious physical assault on his then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009. Since then, the R&B singer has had other claims of abuse brought up against him. Brown seems to be developing a habit of alienating those who work for him due to his aggressive and uncontrollable behavior.
