Stacey Dash Slams Jesse Williams’ ‘Racist’ BET Speech, Calls Actor A ‘Hollywood Plantation Slave’

Stacey Dash was not a fan of Jesse Williams’ speech at the BET Awards. After the Grey’s Anatomy star received the Humanitarian Award at the annual awards show, his Black Lives Matter-focused speech was widely praised. But Stacey Dash deemed the spiel — and the network — racist, and labeled Williams a “Hollywood plantation slave.”

In a post on her Patheos blog, Stacey Dash slammed the BET network and Williams for promoting “racism and segregation.” Dash described Williams’ moving speech as a “tirade” and accused the actor’s activism as “nothing short of an attack on white people.”

Stacey Dash called out Williams for criticizing white people who empathize with the black struggle, pointing out that he saved his worst comments for whites who’ve “committed so-called cultural appropriation of black culture and entertainment.” Stacey singled out Justin Timberlake, who himself was slammed on Twitter after he said he was inspired by the speech.

“Justin, my dear, there is no ‘oneness’ when it comes to Black Lives Matter,” Dash wrote. “They’ve planted the seed of segregation and no longer want to live in ‘perfect harmony,’ like the old song wished. And if Michael Jackson once sang, ‘It don’t matter if you’re black or white,’ well, it does now, at least from their perspective.”

Stacey added that Williams’ speech, delivered to “the very successful black entertainers in the audience who were obviously dressed to the nines in the latest fashions” while addressing branding, was ironic.

“He told them being rich isn’t enough payback for the injustices perpetrated on the black community,” Dash wrote. “Deep, right? And not at all inconsistent being said while wearing expensive duds branded with designer logos. Williams also said he doesn’t have time to wait on God for the freedom promised to His children in Heaven. Williams doesn’t want to wait for freedom. His attitude is that of Veruca Salt: he wants it now.”

Stacey Dash concluded her rant with: “Maybe now people will see why I’m so against this racist network.” In addition to her angry essay, Stacey directed several tweets towards Jesse Williams.

This is not the first time Stacey Dash has had harsh words about BET. Earlier this year, Us Weekly posted a video of the actress slamming the BET Awards and Black History month. Stacey’s comments were made during a controversial appearance on Fox and Friends , when she suggested that both the BET Awards and Black History Month should be eliminated.

At a time when most stars were outraged over the lack of minority nominees in major categories at the Academy Awards, Stacey Dash slammed Black Entertainment Television for giving awards to mostly African American recipients.

“We have to make up our minds,” Stacey said in January. “Either we want to have segregation or integration, and if we don’t want segregation, then we have to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards and the Image Awards, where you’re only awarded if you’re black. If it were the other way around, we’d be up in arms. It’s a double standard.”

In addition to her own tirade against BET, Stacey Dash declared that the United States should do away with Black History Month.

“There shouldn’t be a Black History Month,” Dash said of the annual February remembrance. “We’re Americans, period.”

Stacey Dash later tried to defend her controversial stance on the subject via a post on her blog. Dash explained that her comments were in line with Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman’s past remarks about Black History Month.
