Mariah Carey and Madonna have some things in common: They both have sold millions of records and have a fan base of dedicated gay men who will defend them no matter what. They are also criticized for their choice of outfits and “not acting their age,” even though the criticism is more harsh when it comes to Madonna.
When Madge wore a revealing outfit to the Met Gala last month, she was lambasted for being too old to wear the type of outfit. Many referred to her as “grandma” or a “granny.” There were some who didn’t think Madonna’s age was the issue; they thought the outfit was just not good. Still, the Huffington Post described Madonna’s response to the shaming as “epic.”
“In an Instagram posted Wednesday, the 57-year-old epically shut down critics of her look, citing ageism and sexism as the cause of the negative attention it received…It’s a lot to take in, but the message is clear: If you have a problem with the way a woman dresses, regardless of her age, that’s on you, haters.”
Jamie Feldman, the author of the article, wonders if the comments would have been the same if Rihanna showed up to the met gala wearing the same outfit. According to E! Online , Mariah Carey was the singer who wore a similar outfit to Madge this past weekend in Las Vegas.
“She arrived at about 1 a.m. in a sexy black outfit, made up of a black lace corset, thigh-high fishnets, a garter belt, booty shorts, a black leather jacket, black patent strappy stiletto pumps and a sparking necklace and bangle bracelet.”
Mariah Carey has been condemned across the internet for her choice of clothing. The Daily Mail wrote an article on the same topic , which received more than 1,400 comments. The majority of them are very negative.
“Mariah is having a hard time getting older and all that drinking only makes it worst [sic],” says BlueNotes.
“Did somebody hire a strip-o-gram – or should that be strip-o-gran?” asks Lizzie.
Twitter mocked Mariah Carey as well.

Some think that Mariah Carey is trying to take away attention from the fact that her wedding is stalled. There have been several reports that Carey has had a change of heart and that both she and James Packer are too busy to discuss future plans. However, Gossip Cop says this information is completely false.
“Is Mariah Carey’s wedding on hold? That’s a rumor heating up over the last week. But Gossip Cop can pour cold water all over the claim…Carey can’t wed until her divorce is finalized, and it’s certainly possible her romance with Packer won’t work out for any number of reasons. But right now, the allegation that she’s put the nuptials ‘on hold’ is untrue.”
Meanwhile, fans can expect to see the future Mrs. Packer on an E! reality show this fall called Mariah’s World . Some say it’s a desperate career move, while others think that the reality show world is perfect for Mariah. Here is the trailer for the show.
