‘Game Of Thrones’ Spoilers: Who Died In Season 6 Finale ‘Winds Of Winter?’
The Game of Thrones Season 6 finale shocked fans on Sunday night, not only for the impressive storylines but also for the multiple deaths.
Game of Thrones fans can usually expect one or two deaths in a season finale, but the Season 6 finale went above and beyond in the death department by killing so many characters, including some fan favorites.
According to Fansided, the killing started right out of the gate when Grand Maester Pycelle was summoned to meet King Tommen. He soon found himself in a trap and surrounded by Qyburn’s “little birds,” a group of children that do his bidding. The children then savagely stabbed Grand Maester Pycelle to death.
Shortly after Game of Thrones fans watched Grand Maester Pycelle get murdered, Lancel Lannister, who was sent to fetch Cersei for her trial, was led into the depths of the Sept of Baelor by another “little bird.” The child stabbed him and then lit candles in a puddle of wildfire. Lancel tried to stop the candle from igniting the wildfire but was unsuccessful, and he was the first person to be killed by the green flames.
Unfortunately for all those inside the Sept of Baelor, the wildfire flames quickly spread. The High Sparrow was the first one of the trial group to feel the heat, but very quickly after the flames engulfed him, the entire Sept was burning to the ground, killing everyone inside, including Mace, Loras, and Margaery Tyrell.
Game of Thrones fans watched as King Tommen was shocked at the aftermath of the explosion and learned that so many of his people, including his wife, Maragery, were all dead at the hands of his mother Cersei’s devious plan. All Tommen could do was to stare out the window of the Red Keep as the smoke rose above the Sept. Shockingly, Tommen removed his crown and then threw himself out of the very same window, ending his own life.
Meanwhile, in the Riverlands, there may not have been as much carnage as in King’s Landing, but Arya Stark was upping the death toll for Game of Thrones fans while also crossing some names off of her list.
Arya Stark knows that revenge is a dish best served cold, and in keeping with that theme, she used her face swapping talents to hand Walder Frey the ultimate vengeance. Arya killed and dismembered Walder Frey’s sons, Lothar and Black Walder, only to bake them in a pie and serve them to Walder.
After revealing that she had done so, Arya then revealed her true face to Frey and told him that her smiling Stark face would be the last thing he ever saw. Arya then slit Walder Frey’s throat, crossing his name off of her list and getting her revenge for the Red Wedding, where her mother, Catelyn, and brother Robb Stark were killed.
One other death was seen during the Game of Thrones Season 6 finale, although it was a death that occurred in the past. Bran Stark revisited the Tower of Joy and learned his family’s biggest secret: Jon Snow is not Ned Stark’s illegitimate son, but the son of his sister Lyanna.
Lyanna Stark lie dying in the Tower of Joy after giving birth to her son and, before passing away, made her brother Ned promise to take care of her child and protect him, likely from the family of Jon’s rumored father, Rhaegar Targaryen, which confirms the R+L=J theory. It was a very touching moment, one that Game of Thrones fans had been waiting years to see come to light.
With so many deaths in the Season 6 finale, fans can’t help but wonder what Season 7 of Game of Thrones may bring, and the spoilers and speculation have already begun. Unfortunately, viewers will have to wait until 2017 to find out how it all plays out.
