Ben Affleck Speaks On ‘Justice League,’ His Solo ‘Batman’ Flick, And How He Gets Along With Aquaman And The Flash
When Ben Affleck was chosen as the new Bruce Wayne/Batman, many people around the world groaned and complained. After seeing him in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, many of those same people saw him as the only redeeming quality of the film. Now, he’s moving onto Justice League, a solo Batman flick, and also talking about how the Caped Crusader is going to get along with some of his new teammates — Aquaman and The Flash.
So much is coming from the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) in the next five years, and now, Affleck is going to be a huge part of it. Yes, he would have been just as Batman, but now he has a solo film coming and is also the executive producer of Justice League. This is going to lead to a lot of interesting changes that fans may truly be thrilled about.
Fans really took to Affleck’s version of Batman in Batman V Superman, and it’s interesting to see this older style of the superhero. He spoke with Collider recently about how Batman will be portrayed in Justice League, and it’s quite intriguing to see his take on him.“Yeah, he’s a little bit more sardonic, humor, a little more irony. He’s on a little more man on a mission this time. As opposed to like he was so full of anger because of what happened at the Black Zero Event. That kind of character, that sort of rage that possessed him. And now he’s on a mission to get this group together. To constitute this League. But, more of his, that sort of Bruce Wayne, wry, ironic gallows humor comes out. He’s not like a “haha” jokey, but that sort of stuff comes out a little bit. A bit of, his sort of darker humor stuff is present.”
There is going to be a lot of interaction with other characters in Justice League, and it’s going to be a first for Batman in this universe. Characters like The Flash and Aquaman are going to be teaming with Batman for the first time on the big screen, and Affleck’s character will have to learn to adjust to them.
For one, he says that Ezra Miller as The Flash is “young and fun and full of life” and almost in the same frame of mind that a character such as Robin would be. Then, there is Jason Mamoa as Aquaman, who is a “very strong character” who won’t just be pushed around by Batman, who is seen as the leader of the group of superheroes.Expect tension between all of them before they learn that they have a greater goal in mind and one that they must work together to accomplish.
As for the solo Batman movie, the script is still being worked on by Affleck and he’s not thrilled with it just yet. The thing is, and fans should be happy with this, he’s going to release it when it’s perfect and not a moment before.“I have a script, we’re still working on it, and I’m not happy enough with it yet to actually go out there and make a Batman movie, for which I have the highest of standards, I would say. That’s something that would have to pass a very high bar for me. It’s not just like, ‘yeah, that might be fun, let’s go try this out.'”
With rumors of countless old-school villains appearing in the solo Batman movie, there is so much to look forward to from that script and the work he’s doing.
Ben Affleck has really stepped into things in a big way in the DCEU, and fans are rather happy about that now. The more control that is taken away from Zack Snyder, the happier they have become. The solo Batman movie is going to be very interesting and Justice League is going to say a lot about how successful the comic book franchise will be for Warner Bros. As they hope for great things to come, they have some a strong mind working on them in Ben Affleck.
