Ever since the emotionally charged Season 4 finale, the Bates Motel fans have been on edge waiting for the premiere date for the next season. Bates Motel showrunner Kerry Ehrin explains that Norma Bates (Vera Farmiga) will be a big part of the show’s finale season. And Sheriff Alex Romero (Nester Carbonell) will continue to try to prove that Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) killed his mother in a failed murder-suicide scheme.
Bates Motel spoilers tease that the fans shouldn’t expect the series to return until March of 2017. It seems like a long time for the fans to wait to see the conclusion of the series. Ehrin promises that the wait will be worth it because they are planning an action-packed ending to a critically acclaimed show.
Kerry revealed that Norma will always be a part of the show because the series is based on Norman’s obsessive love for his mother. Essentially, without Norma, there wouldn’t be a story to tell. Norman’s storyline revolves around Norma. She drove him to evolve into the Norman we know and love from the 1960 movie Psycho.
“Vera will always be the center of the show in any incarnation because the obsession with her has always driven the show.”
Movie News Guide reports that Norman will propel into Psycho territory during Season 5. His mother’s death is a plot point, and will drive him to complete insanity. It isn’t apparent if we will see Dr. Edwards (Damon Gupton) again in Bates Motel. He served his purpose when he diagnosed Norman with a treatable mental illness commonly known as multiple personalities.
In Season 5, Norman will only see Norma in his mind, which is the plot of the movie, Psycho. Bates Motel spoilers tease that Norman will start pretending to be his mother, and will commit murders while dressed up in her clothes. In his mind, it is his mother committing the murders, and he will have no memory of doing anything wrong.
Bates Motel spoilers report that Marion Crane will show up in Season 5, but the storytelling that leads to Norman’s arrest will differ from the 1960 movie. Ehrin explains that the events that will lead up to Norman’s arrest will coincide with Psycho , but the storytelling and perspective may differ slightly. They want to stay true to the story and maintain the integrity of Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece.
“They will cross paths with some of the events in the movie and lead to an ultimate resolution. What that resolution is and how that plays out is something that will be not disconnected to the movie Psycho but will be very much our own story in the same way the entire series has been.”
The big question about Bates Motel is how Dylan (Max Theriot) learns of his mother’s death. At the end of the Season 4 finale, Norman told him that Norma was angry and didn’t want to talk to him. It crushed Dylan, but he accepted it as it sounded like something Norma would say.
In Season 5, Dylan and Emma (Olivia Cooke) begin a new life together. Something happens which places Norman and his drama right back in the middle of Dylan’s life, and he has no other choice but deal with the mess he created when he murdered their mother. It will be emotional, heartbreaking, and maybe even a little funny, Design & Trend reports.
“We’ll be spending some time with Dylan and Emma as they forge a new life. But, obviously and inevitably, he will cross back into Norman’s orbit.”
