‘Outlander’ Season 2 — Get Your First Look At Brianna And Roger, Plus What To Expect In Episode 12 ‘Hail Mary’

Outlander is about to introduce two important characters in Season 2.

With only two episode remaining, Entertainment Weekly has offered a first look at Brianna Randall (Sophie Skelton) and Roger Wakefield (Richard Rankin).

Apart from Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe), Roger and Brianna are integral to the Outlander world. Fans have already been introduced to younger versions of the characters, though the finale will feature them in full form.

Brianna is Jamie and Claire’s daughter from the future who was raised by Claire’s original husband, Frank.

Roger, on the other hand, is Brianna’s romantic interest and future husband.

Both characters will take on a larger role as the series continues to develop.

“There is so much anticipation for these characters,” Rankin shared. “I really think what we care most about is whether people are going to be happy with these characters that they’ve been waiting two years for.”

Rankin and Skelton were cast back in 2015, though Starz has kept the roles a secret. In fact, producers went to great lengths to hide their involvement in the show while filming took place in Scotland.

“There’s been this build up for so long,” Skelton added. “It’s a scary thought because of things like the fact that Brianna’s from Boston, but we decided not to go with a Boston accent. We just assumed that given how she was raised in a private Catholic school in the ’60s, she sort of had any Boston drummed out of her, and she’d be a standard American.”

Accents aren’t the only element of her character Skelton worried about. Appearance also played a part in bringing Brianna to life.

“And then there are things like the eye color,” Skelton stated. “I think people are expecting [her to wear] contacts because Bri’s eyes are blue [in the books]. Everybody will have a different view.”

Meanwhile, apart from the new faces, Design & Trend is reporting that the next episode of Outlander is going to get messy for Jamie and the rebellion.

The upcoming episode of Outlander, titled “The Hail Mary,” will see Jamie and Claire rejoining the ranks of The Jacobite Army. Although the rebellion has experienced plenty of disappointing losses this season, the Battle of Culloden could be its worst yet.

With the odds stacked against Jamie, the fight could sway the balance in the war and put an end to the rebellion.

At the same time, fans will see Jamie’s uncle, Colum, make a return. However, things aren’t going to end well as Colum asks Claire to end his life following his leg injury.

Speaking of returning characters, Black Jack Randall’s (Tobias Menzies) brother, Alex (Laurence Dobiesz), will also make an appearance this episode. The details are still murky, though Alex is seeking out Claire, which should make things all the more interesting.

According to Movie News Guide, Alex is suffering from a disease and is looking for a cure. He has high hopes that Claire, who is well versed in healing, will offer him the help he needs.

There is also a possibility that Alex’s plan is linked with Mary Hawkins (Rosie Day). Is it possible that Alex and Mary will eventually get together?

Mary is an ancestor of Frank Randall, so she will have to marry into the family at some point in the near future. Whether or not she connects with Alex is yet to be seen.

“The Hail Mary” is scheduled to air June 25 on Starz. The Season 2 finale of Outlander, titled “Dragonfly in Amber,” will feature the debut of Brianna and Roger and is set to premiere July 9.
