Ireland Baldwin is giving her 30 Rock actor dad a break for his angry 2007 answering machine message, and furthermore, she doesn’t understand why the media made such a big deal out of something she just basically shrugged off as a family tiff.
The 16-year-old daughter of Alec Baldwin and his ex-wife Kim Basinger reportedly didn’t think much of her dad’s infamous answering machine message in which he called her a “rude, thoughtless little pig.” The message leaked onto the internet and made headlines worldwide, causing Baldwin to admit that the scandal sent him into a deep depression in which he contemplated suicide.
But Ireland doesn’t hold her father in any real contempt for the message, insisting that it wasn’t a “big deal” and that the family dispute was settled in a quick phone call afterwards.
Said Ireland, “The only problem with that voice mail was that people made it out to be a way bigger deal than it was. He’s said stuff like that before just because he’s frustrated. For me it was like, ‘OK, whatever.’ I called him back, I was like, ‘Sorry Dad, I didn’t have my phone.’ That was it.”
Ireland also talked a bit about stepmom Hilaria Thomas, who Baldwin married this summer . She said that she gets along with Thomas swimmingly.
“Hilaria and I are really close. She’s like a big sister to me, but I feel like I haven’t spent enough time with her yet. We joke around, and I call her ‘mom.’ But I respect her, it’s not like I’m ‘Parent Trap’-ping her, setting up booby traps in her room.”
Do you think that Ireland should be more upset about her dad’s 2007 voicemail, or is it really not that big of a deal?
