‘RHOC’ Star Vicki Gunvalson Reveals The Truth About Brooks Ayers’ Cancer Scam — ‘There Were Lies Being Told’
Vicki Gunvalson has finally opened up about her part in Brooks Ayers’ controversial cancer scam.
Ayers’ cancer scandal provided the bulk of drama last season on The Real Housewives of Orange County. While most of the women accused Ayers of lying, Gunvalson stood by his side throughout the majority of the season.
According to Radar Online, Gunvalson is now singing a different tune.
“I do believe there were lies being told, I don’t know to what level,” she revealed.
Although Gunvalson admitted to the lies, she still thinks Ayers was sick.
“I mean, I do believe he was sick, nobody can lose the amount of weight that he did,” Gunvalson stated. “Nobody can throw up and have fevers the way that he did. Nobody would fake going to doctors the way he did. I saw the bills of all of these supplements he was taking.”
The excuses didn’t stop there.
Gunvalson went on to point out how much money Ayers allegedly spent on cancer treatments. In the end, the reality star refused to admit to any wrongdoing on her part.
“Why would he spend that much money if he wasn’t sick?” she shared. “I don’t know…there are a lot of questions that I will never know [the answers to] but it wasn’t like he was totally healthy the whole time.”
Of course, Ayers was caught forging medical documents to prove he had cancer. Despite his outright lies, Gunvalson explained how discovering the truth is not her top priority.
“It was like a punch in the stomach… And I’ll never know the truth, 100-percent the truth. And if I worry about that and fester about it, with how busy my life is, I am going to be stuck,” she noted. “So, I had to push it aside, I have to push it behind me.”
Although Ayers’ reputation was ruined by the cancer scandal, Vicki Gunvalson revealed that she still thinks fondly of him.
As far as her co-stars are concerned, Gunvalson was disappointed how they reacted to the situation. Not only was Gunvalson hurt by their allegations, but she also thought they could have been more supportive of her.
In the end, Gunvalson cleared the air about her part in Ayers’ lies.
“There would be no reason for me to lie! So that was the hard part, my friends… I never lied for him. What would be my benefit?” Gunvalson explained. “So I think that was my biggest thing this year, getting back on the season, is handling all of those issues that they thought I [lied].”
Meanwhile, People is reporting that Gunvalson has had a difficult time moving on without Ayers by her side. During the opening episode of the new season of The Real Housewives of Orange County, Gunvalson admitted that she didn’t want Ayers to leave.
“I loved Brooks hard… to the point where I kind of pissed off some of my friends,” Gunvalson shared. “I did not handle things correctly at times, but I want to put it behind me… I want to have my friendships back again.”
Whether or not her co-stars are willing to forgive and forget is another matter. So far, only one cast member has expressed a desire to mend things with Gunvalson.
For her part, Gunvalson has moved on to a new relationship. According to E! Online, the reality star is now in a romance with Steve Lodge.
In order to start her relationship right, Gunvalson apparently told Lodge everything that happened between her and Ayers. However, Gunvalson stopped short of introducing them, which was probably a wise move.
Fans can watch new episodes of The Real Housewives of Orange County Monday nights on Bravo.
