TWICE Dominating 2016 So Far! — ‘Cheer Up’ Most-Viewed K-Pop Music Video Of The Year While ‘Like OHH-AHH’ Reaches 70 Million Views
Since they first came on the scene back in July 2015 via promotions on their official Instagram account, Twice has become one of the most-popular rookie groups in the K-pop industry today. The nine-member group consisting of Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu, have garnered a following through music competition variety show Sixteen. Eventually, they would release their debut song “Like OHH-AHH” in October and would be met with praise from both critics and fans. As a matter of fact, “Like OHH-AHH” was so popular, it likened Twice to Girls’ Generation. The music video itself became the most-viewed music video for a song by a K-pop girl group on YouTube, surpassing the space edition of “Fire” by 2NE1.
Eventually, K-pop fans, especially those who are Once (official fan club of Twice), anticipated Twice’s return in 2016 and they did not disappoint with “Cheer Up.” Their song was praised and swept the Korean music charts. It, along with the success of “Like OHH-AHH,” are the reasons why Twice is dominating 2016.

First, we should start with the success of Twice’s current hit song, “Cheer Up.” According to Soompi, the music video for the song is actually the No. 1 song in 2016’s top 10 most-viewed K-pop music videos so far. As of the publication of this article, “Cheer Up” has surpassed 50 million views which is a record given the fact it was uploaded on YouTube less than a month ago on April 24.
To understand just how Twice is dominating so far, “Cheer Up” had more views than “Fire” by BTS (28.3 million), “Rough” by GFriend (24.6 million), “Hate” by 4Minute (23.6 million), “Rain” by Taeyeon (21.4 million), “Fly” by Got7 (20.8 million), “Dream” by Baekhyun and Suzy (18.5 million), “I Am You” by Zico (16.9 million), “Save Me” by BTS (14.1 million), and “Fly” by Jessica (13.9 million). Take note there are two JYP Entertainment artists on the top 10 with Twice and Got7, and BTS is listed twice with two different songs.

The fact that “Cheer Up” is the number one song on 2016’s top 10 most-viewed K-pop music videos can be the one and only achievement for Twice this year that matters, but it is not the only achievement they made. As of right now, the music video for their debut song, “Like OHH-AHH” has reached a record 70 million views within eight months of its debut, as reported by KpopStarz. That is amazing given the fact that 20 million of those views were probably earned within two months because it just reached 50 million early April.
It should be noted that many who are part of Once are pushing the views for “Like OHH-AHH.” The first push was a success as Once wanted to reach the 70 million views mark as a gift to Tzuyu, the maknae of Twice, for her birthday. It was also their way of showing they would always stand by Twice and all its members but they specifically picked Tzuyu since she was in the center of the Taiwanese flag controversy. Now Once is pushing for 100 million views for “Like OHH-AHH” within four months, right before Twice’s one-year anniversary.
At this moment, Twice is in the midst of promoting their second studio album titled Page Two, the album that features “Cheer Up.” Twice is also making numerous television appearances which include Running Man and Please Take Care of My Refrigerator.
