‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 13 Spoilers — Will Meredith And Alex Finally Be Together? What About Her Romance With Riggs?

A new romance might be in the cards for Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) on the new season of Grey’s Anatomy.

With Meredith’s former husband, Derek (Patrick Dempsey), dead and buried, there is a possibility that she and Alex (Justin Chambers) will hook up next season. Although it is exciting to see Meredith back in the game, what about her plans with Dr. Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson)?

According to Fansided, executive producer Betsy Beers opened up about the new twist in Meredith’s love life.

For starters, Beers revealed that a romance between Meredith and Alex makes perfect sense.

“I think there’s something about them where fans sometimes feel like that might be inevitable, so they’re getting ahead of it,” Beers told E! Online. “So I don’t think it surprises me because I think it’s a logical place to go.”

From there, Beers admitted that Meredith has a few options available to her, though a relationship with Alex seems like the best route.

“From my perspective, I understand the reaction because I think you also just love these two people and you want them both to be happy, and that’s a natural thing too,” she stated. “But then there’s so many Alex-Jo fans—like, the Alex-Jo fans are crazyballs! So it’s nice—there’s a little bit of something for everybody right now.”

Meredith and Alex are all the only ones left from the original residents at Grey Sloan Memorial.

All of the other residents have either moved on or passed away. This includes Izzie Stevens, Cristina Yang, and George O’Malley.

Despite Beers’ positive comments, a relationship between Meredith and Alex might not sit well with fans. After all, the two have been great friends over the years and it would be hard to see their relationship go outside of the friend zone.

The more natural selection for Meredith is Riggs. According to Movie News Guide, Riggs and Meredith shared a romantic moment at the end of Season 12, leading many to wonder if a relationship would blossom between the two.

With that in mind, Unreality TV is reporting that it is possible that Meredith would date both men in Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy.

If Meredith is forced to choose between the two men, then heartbreak is definitely in the cards for all parties involved.

For Meredith, a possible love triangle would only complicate her life, especially considering all of the drama she faced over the past few seasons.

However, moving Meredith’s story forward with a new romance seems like the best move. What better way for Meredith to finally move on with her life after Derek’s tragic death?

Luckily, Beers strongly hinted that Meredith will find love next season. The only real question remaining is which doctor she chooses.

“I think she deserves some love,” Beers stated. “I feel like there’s something incredibly delicious about getting to watch this, so fingers crossed this is the tip of an iceberg.”

Despite Beers’ promising comments, there is always the possibility that Alex and Jo get back together.

Either way, it is clear that Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy will focus on Meredith’s ever-changing story, and, thankfully, love is back in the equation.

According to Parent Herald, Shonda Rhimes recently shared just how much Meredith means to the show and fans alike.

“The audience truly identifies with Ellen Pompeo,” Rhimes stated. “We are following this woman’s journey and the journey of all these people with her.”

Chandra Wilson, Chambers, James Pickens Jr., and Kevin McKidd are all expected to return to the hit medical drama next season.

The new season of Grey’s Anatomy is set to premiere this coming fall on ABC.
