Kellie Pickler Shaves Her Head To Support Cancer-Stricken Friend

American Idol star and country singer Kellie Pickler has a stunning new look, but her hairstyle is one that bucks the trend of long, flowing locks — Pickler has shaved her head entirely, and for a very moving reason.

Kellie Pickler peach-fuzz ‘do is a big departure for the star, but she did it for friendship. Pickler’s BFF Summer Holt Miller, 35, is battling cancer and set to begin chemo very soon — and Kellie took the bold step of shearing her tresses off entirely in a show of solidarity for her friend.

Kellie Pickler is only one of a few female stars that have gone totally bald in recent years, and Demi Moore and Natalie Portman both shaved their heads for roles. But Pickler’s move is a big deal because it was for friendship, and Holt is grateful and moved by her friend’s compassion.

Of Pickler’s head-shaving, Miller says that not only is the gesture sweet, but the singer’s star power could also save lives:

“If this compels even one person to change their mentality toward waiting until the age of 40 for their mammogram, then it will be worth it.”

Of her decision to shave her head ahead of chemo, Miller explains:

“I was told that it was mentally much easier to do it this way than to wake up with my hair on my pillow… I’m really not that apprehensive about shaving my head. It is hair and it will grow back.”
