Vanity Fair is reporting that shock blew down Broadway as Lin-Manuel Miranda announced that July 9th would be his last performance of Hamilton as Alexander Hamilton. The wait list for Hamilton tickets was already very long, and many would-be theater-goers were disappointed to think that they would never get to see Miranda in the title role. But never fear, there will be a way for fans to see Miranda and the original cast, as Hamilton is being filmed for later viewing.
It was rumored, and it has now been confirmed by Miranda that “the production will film two performances with the original cast this month before they start exiting, as well as shooting offstage cameos.” So if you don’t already have tickets in hand to see Hamilton before the July 9th performance, don’t fear, as at some point, you will be able to see the original cast of Hamilton doing their thing.
It is being said that those who know Miranda thought that something like this was in the works all along. Miranda, who was a school teacher, is all about making theater accessible to everyone, and especially kids. While Hamilton is incredibly entertaining, it also has a serious educational angle.
But the official word that Hamilton with its original cast would be dedicated to film was kept a secret so as not to deflate the insane demand for current Hamilton tickets. But regardless, there is still something about seeing Hamilton in the theater that you can’t get on a television screen.

Playbill is saying that an at-home version of Hamilton will be available this fall, a kind of mixtape for those who are just dying to see the original cast. At a press conference today, Lin-Manuel Miranda shared the details of a documentary and DVD version of Hamilton for at-home Hamilton enthusiasts. There will also be some covers of some of the tunes from Hamilton that Miranda says will rock your world, as a pretty famous singer or two will be guest starring.
“There’s a cover of ‘Satisfied’ that is going to blow your f*****g minds — you can put asterisks through that!”
Miranda says that this at-home version will drop in October.

“ Hamilton ‘s story was pretty clear,” he said.
“There’s probably 10-15 songs [that were cut], which is really good batting average for me, and we’re releasing some of those on the Hamilton Mixtape that will come out in the fall. That is still deciding what it wants to be. I’m letting the artists who are [involved] take the lead on that.”
Miranda says for the Hamilton PBS documentary, he did sit-downs with Stephen Sondheim, John Weidman, and Nas about Miranda’s process and lyric writing. He said he wanted to convey how the musical came together. As to when the at-home version of the play will be available, there was no date given by Miranda, but it might make a really nice holiday gift.
