‘Orange Is The New Black’ Is Better Than Ever In Season 4, Will Martha Stewart Finally Watch?

The Orange is the New Black Season 4 premiere is right around the corner, and after lackluster seasons two and three, Netflix promises the new season will be better than ever.

According to TVGuide, season one was clearly the best season to date. When it premiered back in 2013, the show was fresh and new, depicting stories and developing interesting characters that made the Netflix show bing-worthy.

But after season one, the show stumbled with season two, when conflict within the prison didn’t really lead anywhere. Season 3 received mix reviews at best.

One of the reasons the show hasn’t held on to the hype from season one is the fact that other shows are making Orange less groundbreaking and more normal.

Amazon has Transparent, Netflix also produces Master of None, and even Fox’s Empire tackle social issues that include different races, genders, and sexual identities.

As Hollywood Reporter states, Orange is the New Black will aim to keep its head above the rest of the crowd as it tackles current social issues in the upcoming season.

The first season introduced the incarcerated love story between Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) and Alex Vause (Laura Prepon) and the fourth season will continue to use Piper as its point of view to tell a new story for the women at Litchfield prison.

Season 4 will also continue its tradition of focusing on social issues, with one storyline reflecting the Black Lives Matter movement after a major cultural war breaks out at the overpopulated correctional facility.

The cultural war puts pressure on the new and inexperienced guards, who in return use levels of brutality and racial injustice that will impact every inmate.

And even though the Jenji Kohan-created drama has been known for putting a spotlight on the prison’s racial groups, the lines dividing the groups grows even deeper in the upcoming season of Orange is the New Black.

There will be actions taken, and the fallout directly impacts the black women and makes the other women hold on to their respective groups like never before.

“Danger is the underlying theme: Racial tension and danger,” Selenis Leyva, who plays chef Gloria Mendoza, shared with The Hollywood Reporter. “This season is definitely going to start up conversations that we’re dealing with now. That’s the beauty of what Jenji does, with the writers. They really take things that are happening, that are current events, and deal with topics that people are afraid to really dive into. And we’re going to go there this season, especially with the prison system.”

Leyva went on to describe the prison system as being one of the characters in the upcoming season and how corruption trickles down and directly affects the inmates.

However, despite reports of the new season being better than the last two and possibly even better than the first, some still refuse to watch the show, namely Martha Stewart.

People reports that during the latest episode of Netflix’s Chelsea, the former inmate said that she doesn’t care to watch Orange is the New Black.

“It’s not as good as the real thing,” Stewart said on the show. “When you live through something like Orange Is the New Black, the real characters are better.”

Martha Stewart, 74, famously spent five months in jail in 2004 after be found guilty of obstructing justice and lying to investigators involving the sale of ImClone Systems Inc. stock.

Stewart admitted that being kept behind bars forced her to adjust to a completely different way of life, including when and what she got to watch on TV.
