New DC Comics’ Hero Being Added To Season 2 of ‘DC’s Legends Of Tomorrow’
The summer break is leaving fans without any of their favorite comic book TV series, but there is a lot to look forward to in the fall. It’s already been revealed that Gotham, Supergirl, and The Flash are getting new characters next season, but they aren’t the only ones. It has now been announced that DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is going to have another hero from DC Comics joining the show, but one will also be leaving.
According to Deadline, Nick Zano is joining the cast of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow for Season 2, and he’s going to be a regular on the comic book series on The CW. He will star as Dr. Nate Heywood whose grandfather was Commander Steel, and that could be a tidbit of information that may end up being taken a long way.
Commander Steel’s real name was Henry (Hank) Heywood who developed a unique bio-retardant formula back during World War II. As he lay dying due to a serious injury, Hank Heywood had the formula tested on his body and it transformed him into Commander Steele…a hero who had limbs and organs of pure steel. As time went on, the formula was passed down the family line and it eventually landed with Nate Heywood (Nick Zano) who was a member of the Justice Society of America in the comics. This is very interesting to think about as it could end up bringing much more to the show.
As recapped by Superhero Hype, the Season 1 finale of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow saw the team preparing to enter the Waverider when another Waverider time travels into their time. It crashes before them and only one survivor comes out of the ship with an important message for the team.
The survivor tells the team that he was sent back in time to advise them that if they get on the ship, they will die. Mick Rory aka Heat Wave sent him back to give that message, and that is when the survivor reveals he is Rex Tyler, better known as Hourman and a member of the Justice Society of America.
That is ultimately where Nick Zano will come in as Dr. Nate Heywood aka the third Commander Steel. Seeing Hourman, though, makes it truly seem as if the iconic JSA is heading to the small screen and will have a big presence in Season 2.Series co-creator Marc Guggenheim knows that fans are truly excited about the possibility of the JSA showing up, and he gave a little bit more info about what’s to come.
“The composition of the team is going to change; there will be some new faces on the Waverider. The season finale planted some very significant flags in terms of what the new concept of the show will be in season 2. The team’s mission statement for season 2 is more compelling than season 1, and at the same time, it is more streamlined. It’s a little bit higher concept, a very clean notion that will allow the show to do things that it does best.”
Now, the addition of Heywood does not necessarily mean that the cast is getting a lot bigger as there will also be a subtraction in Season 2. Collider reported that Hawkgirl is not going to be a series regular on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow any longer.
DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is one of those shows that started out rather slow, but it picked up speed and more attention as the first season went on. The same kind of thing happened on Fox with Gotham, and that show is now one of the most anticipated returns in 2016. Adding Nick Zano as Dr. Nate Heywood to the show could really be just the beginning of the series expanding to include many other names from DC Comics.
