‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Spoilers: Meredith, Alex Romance Brewing In Season 13?
Grey’s Anatomy fans are still excited about the show even though it’s about to enter its 13th season. The series, which follows the joys and struggles of Dr. Meredith Grey, might be getting even more interesting when it returns this fall.
According to E! Online, Season 13 of Grey’s Anatomy could include a juicy new love interest for Meredith. While some fans are still getting over the death of Meredith’s longtime love, Derek Shepherd, played by Patrick Dempsey, the character has finally started to move on.
In Season 12, viewers watched as Meredith realized that she was lonely and decided to take a chance on an army doctor. Although the relationship did not work out, it was a stepping stone for Meredith, who hotly hooked up with Dr. Nathan Riggs by the end of the season.
However, Grey’s Anatomy fans also found out that Meredith’s new crush, Nathan, is also the crush of her half-sister, Maggie. This could potentially cause problems between the two and leave Meredith wanting to back off from her feelings for Nathan.
Meredith and Alex are the only two remaining members of their resident class left at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, formerly known as Seattle Grace. Other members, George O’Malley, Izzie Stevens, and Cristina Yang, have all moved on, or tragically died.
Grey’s Anatomy fans have watched as Meredith and Alex’s relationship has grown very strong over the past few seasons, especially since Cristina’s departure in Season 10. The pair always have each other’s backs, and are ready to help out with any life crisis that comes along. This is why some fans want the couple to become romantically involved.
Grey’s Anatomy’s executive producer, Betsy Beers, weighed in on the possibility of a Meredith, Alex relationship, exciting fans who are currently shipping the couple of “Merlex.”
“I think there’s something about them where fans sometimes feel like that might be inevitable, so they’re getting ahead of it. So I don’t think it surprises me because I think it’s a logical place to go.”
“From my perspective, I understand the reaction because I think you also just love these two people and you want them both to be happy, and that’s a natural thing too. But then there’s so many Alex-Jo fans—like, the Alex-Jo fans are crazyballs! So it’s nice—there’s a little bit of something for everybody right now.”
It looks like Grey’s Anatomy viewers will have to keep watching to see if writers actually put Meredith Grey and Alex Karev together in Season 13, or any future season. It is possible that Alex is the only other person as emotionally damaged as Meredith, which is why they are such good friends. But will their friendship turn to love?
In Season 12 there were hints that Meredith may be feeling some kind of way towards Alex. Alex’s girlfriend, Jo, even called out Meredith for trying to steal Alex from her, and being too close to him. Meredith laughed it off, but it felt like there could be something there.
Many fans of the show seem to be all for a “Merlex” romance and have taken to social media to express their feelings.

However, other Grey’s Anatomy fans believe that the friendship between Dr. Grey and Dr. Karev should stay as is, and that Meredith should move on with Nathan, or someone else.
