Meg Ryan’s Face The Subject Of Social Media Debate
Meg Ryan’s face is breaking Twitter. The 54-year-old actress made headlines after she appeared at the Tony Awards over the weekend, where viewers noted her changed appearance. Now, some social media users are defending Meg Ryan and questioning why anyone cares whether or not she had plastic surgery, especially in the aftermath of the mass shooting in Orlando that claimed 50 lives.

After Meg Ryan appeared as a presenter at the Tony Awards, several mean-spirited tweets about her appearance surfaced, including one that compared her face to the Batman villain the Joker.

Dear God…. What happened to Meg Ryan?

But just as quickly, other users defended the actress, attributing her “new look” to aging and slamming the haters for worrying about an actress’ appearance instead of the real issues going on in the world.

Meg Ryan has never admitted to getting plastic surgery, but Hollywood Life posted a photo of Ryan at the Tony Awards Sunday night, showing that the 54-year-old actress looks markedly different that she has looked in recent years.
Ryan has been staying out of the public eye and her acting roles have been few and far between over the past few years, so fans were surprised by her appearance when she introduced a performance by the cast of “She Loves Me” at the high-profile awards ceremony.

Meg Ryan previously said she tries to ignore what is written about her, and her words on the topic were almost prophetic when she talked to Porter magazine late last year.
“I don’t pay a lot of attention frankly,” Meg told the magazine of her critics. “There’s a lot of hatred in the world today, it’s so easy to judge. Imagine being a hater, how stupid!”
Meg went on to say that she avoids other women who get caught up in picking each other apart.
“The people I value talk about kids growing up, what kind of world they are going into, what we are eating, what we are breathing,” Meg said. “There are more important conversations than how women look and how they are aging.”
Meg Ryan was once the romantic comedy queen, with films like When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, and You’ve Got Mail solidifying her as America’s sweetheart back in the late 1980s early ’90s. Movie darling Meg also made headlines for her high-profile romances with her Proof of Life co-star Russell Crowe and her ex-husband Dennis Quaid.
But like fellow ’90s sweetie Renee Zellweger, Meg Ryan chose to step away from the limelight for a while, and when she resurfaced, fans and foes had a field day speculating on whether her “new look” was due to plastic surgery or good old-fashioned aging.
After the internet frenzy over her own look in recent years, Zellweger told People that age and happiness were the two contributing factors to her changed appearance.
“People don’t know me in my 40s,” Zellweger said. “People don’t know me [as] healthy for a while. Perhaps I look different. Who doesn’t as they get older? But I am different. I’m happy… I’m glad folks think I look different! I’m living a different, happy, more fulfilling life, and I’m thrilled that perhaps it shows.”
