Kacey Musgraves’ Pro-Gun Tweet Backfires, Tries To Spread Holiday Cheer Instead
Unsurprisingly, Kacey Musgraves, who’s very liberal when it comes to legalizing recreational marijuana and LGBT marriage, is a staunch supporter of pro-gun rights. She probably assumed that her fans would agree with her, but she was in for a rude awakening.
The “High Time” singer sparked social media outrage when she tweeted her thoughts about the devastating Orlando nightclub shooting on Sunday afternoon.
“Let’s go back to saloon days where every muthaf**** is carryin’ a revolver and anyone walkin’ in to disturb the peace might maybe think twice,” Musgraves tweeted.
The country singer’s comments incited a lot of backlash from her own fans, who were disappointed in her pro-gun views. Kacey then deleted the tweet and followed up with two more messages.
“Look, emotions are high today. Mine included. Just hating hate. Lots of opinions in the mix. LOVE is the only true answer. Hard subject tho.”
Then she later wrote, “All I know is something isn’t working. That’s all. I love y’all and my true intent is peaceful.”
Now the singer wants fans focused on her upcoming Christmas album. Even though it’s June and not yet Christmas in July, Musgraves was feeling the holiday spirit a week ago. Musgraves took to Instagram to share a photo of her wearing a green T-shirt with a red crystallized pendant. She told her fans that she has a special Christmas present coming soon.
Since then, the country star has posted even more updates from the recording studio, which is now decked out in holiday cheer. As you can see in the photo below, Kacey and her gang are enjoying an early holiday party complete with a lit Christmas tree and stockings. Kacey revealed that it’s helping her channel her holiday feelings into her album.
Note that Musgraves called her project a Christmas “record” as opposed to an actual “album,” which means that she could just be recording a single. On the other hand, Musgraves could actually be releasing a Christmas record that you could listen to on vinyl as you drink hot chocolate by the roaring fireplace. Musgraves also teased the classic country sound that she’s known for.
Even Kacey’s representatives have confirmed to Rolling Stone Country that she’s working on a collection of holiday music. It will be the follow-up to her latest release, Pageant Material, which she released last summer. Around that time, Kacey hinted to Rolling Stone that she already had something in mind for her next album.
“The next one will be completely different because I don’t think this one is very far off from [Same Trailer Different Park]. I would really like to write to a concept next time. I’d really like to do a reggae record, or a surf-rock record.”
Whether Musgraves’ Christmas album will include “reggae” music or “surf-rock” is yet to be seen. She is currently the headliner of her Country & Western Rhinestone Revue Tour, which has run into 2016. Fans can see Musgraves perform throughout the country during select dates over the course of the summer, which include festivals, state fairs, and upcoming shows in Las Vegas.

She recently collaborated with co-headliner musician Conor Oberst at McCarren Park on Saturday to perform the Hank Williams’ classic “Hey Good Lookin’.” Kacey previously covered the 1951 hit song back in April with the Zac Brown Band.
“It’s like country and emo mixing perfectly, and I love it,” Musgraves said to the announce before bringing the punk rock musician on stage.
