‘The Flash’ And ‘Gotham’ Season 3 Spoilers: Major New Characters Arriving On Both Shows
DC Comics is really doing whatever they can to keep pace with Marvel by way of worlds outside of the comic book universe. The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is one that dominates at the box office while the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) is still trying to find its footing. As for the small screen? The DCEU is certainly leading in that department, and two of its TV series are getting even bigger for Season 3 as the casts of The Flash and Gotham are about to grow.
The Flash has been a series that has been a hit from the beginning and The CW continues to do a great job with its comic book TV series. Gotham has taken a bit longer for viewers to really get into, but its following is truly starting to pick up some speed.
Gotham is going to bring in a new female character in Season 3, and she is one that fans of Batman should be familiar with. TV Line has confirmed that the new character will be an ambitious young journalist by the name of Valerie who is actually none other than Vicki Vale.
Vicki Vale was created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger and has been around in the comics since 1948. She’s always been a gung-ho journalist who has also been a romantic interest of Bruce Wayne. In the 1989 hit film Batman, she was played by Kim Basinger.
For Gotham, the character is described as being in her late ’20s and decidedly older than Bruce Wayne. As for The Flash, it is being reported by Coming Soon that a “major recurring character” is currently being cast for Season 3. The interesting thing here is that this newcomer will relate directly to Barry Allen and could cause a lot of trouble for him.
“For Season 3, the CW hit is casting the major recurring character of Barry’s slightly older, slightly geekier contemporary, a guy who is as smart as he is intuitive. As such, this newcomer doesn’t buy Barry’s nice guy routine and sets out to learn what he’s hiding — all while concealing some secrets of his own….”
This is a very interesting description as it could lead to any number of possibilities for Season 3 of The Flash. With the addition of Supergirl to The CW to go along with Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, the fall and winter TV seasons are already going to be huge.
For those not aware, there is even going to be a mega-crossover event with all four shows that is bound to be epic.
While it’s not known who this new character will be on The Flash, there are plenty of assumptions going around. Collider hints that it could very well be a page taken out of the “Identity Crisis” storyline which could see Barry Allen wrestle with himself.Meanwhile, there is still talk that Mirror Master could make his way into the DCEU by making his debut on The Flash. As of now, TV Line has heard whispers but isn’t yet sure if he is going to end up as the major villain in Season 3.
The casts of both The Flash and Gotham are going to grow in their respective third seasons, and that gives a lot for fans to be happy about. Vicki Vale arriving in Gotham gives a whole new connection to other DCEU dimensions. As for over on The CW, the addition of a new character on The Flash could end up seeing Barry Allen’s secret identity compromised and lead into storylines that some never dreamed would come to life.
