After New Breakup-Inspired Album, Nick Jonas Still ‘Not Ready’ To Move On
Nick Jonas is not quite ready to get back into the dating pool. Despite all the rumors linking him to actresses like Kate Hudson and Lily Collins, the youngest Jonas brother is still single and recuperating from his breakup from ex-girlfriend Olivia Culpo.
Jonas, the 23-year-old actor and musician even recently tweeted out that he was “very single.”
I’m very single y’all. That is all.

But “single” does not automatically mean “ready to mingle.”
Nick Jonas has recently told E! News, that a new relationship is not in the cards right now.
“I don’t know if I’m really looking for a new relationship at the moment. I’ve been so busy there’s been literally zero time but at this point I’m just focusing ahead.”

While the actor and musician is looking ahead in terms of his relationships, his newest album Last Year Was Complicated looks back at his past. The album catalogues his feelings after his breakup from ex-girlfriend Olivia Culpo.
The singer has previously spoken of the “therapeutic” effects of creating this album for him. He told The Hamilton Spectator the following.
“There’s no better release for me than creating. I just had to do it, I had that instinct. The minute she [his ex-girlfriend Olivia Culpo] left, I was alone in my apartment. I was like, ‘I have to […] get out of the city and write.'”

But the therapeutic effects were clearly not strong enough, as it appears that the singer is still hung up on Culpo and has even been wondering if she has liked the album or not.
Nick Jonas spoke of one song in particular, “Champagne Problems,” that he hopes Culpo has heard. As reported by The Hamilton Spectator, he said the following.
“I’ve thought a lot about whether she’s heard it, and I’m sure she’s heard ‘Champagne Problems’ at this point. The concept of the song, which maybe doesn’t stand out on first listen, is, ‘You’re amazing, you’re all the things I hope to find with somebody, but timing, circumstances, all these things play into it not being right.’ Champagne is amazing; it tastes delicious but gives you a really bad hangover. That’s the idea.”
And with that message, Nick Jonas has made clear that this breakup-inspired album has helped him understand that even if his relationship with Culpo was perfect, and tasted “delicious,” it ended with a “bad hangover.”
In opening up and explaining the significance of Last Year Was Complicated in his life, the singer and musician is really displaying a large amount of vulnerability for his fans.
In Nick Jonas’ own words, this album will really “lay it all out” in terms of his relationships.
According to The Daily News, Jonas spoke of the songs in general.
“By writing the songs, I’m hopeful it answers some of the questions that I get asked that might be a little monotonous,”
The album is really a part of his life that he is sharing with his fans; the singer has called it a “great opportunity” to connect with people.
“It’s a great opportunity to just lay it out,” he told People. “I was trying to be as honest as possible – it really is pulling from this chapter of my life.”
“Taking ownership of these things is nice as an artist, and I am able to speak about it in a really open way – that I probably wouldn’t be able to in an interview setting,” he also said. “I want to continue writing music that speaks to people, and it just happens to be about my life.”
