Ian Somerhalder And Nina Dobrev Back Together — Former ‘Vampire Diaries’ Co-Stars To Reunite On And Off Screen?

Now that she is single, there is a chance that Nina Dobrev wants to get back with Ian Somerhalder. Will the two Vampire Diaries stars reunite on and off the screen in the near future?

Australian Network News is reporting that Dobrev recently shared an image of herself on Instagram in an attempt to get Somerhalder back. The photo featured Dobrev in a sexy two-piece bikini playing volleyball on the beach.

“Set goals… SMASH them #comittosomething,” Dobrev wrote alongside the image.

Although it is a possibility that Dobrev had Somerhalder in mind when she shared the photo, the two have clearly moved on with their lives since their break up.

For her part, she dated Austin Stowell for almost a year before they decided to part ways because of conflicting schedules.

At the same time, Somerhalder dated and married former Twilight star Nikki Reed. By all outside appearances, Somerhalder and Reed are more than happy with their relationship.

While they might not reunite in real life, there is a strong possibility that Somerhalder and Dobrev will work together on the upcoming season of The Vampire Diaries. According to the International Business Times, creator Julie Plec has expressed a desire to bring Dobrev back for the show’s final season.

The CW has yet to announce whether or not Season 8 will indeed be The Vampire Diaries’ final year. However, with both Somerhalder and Kat Graham leaving, there is a good chance the series will end after next season.

If The Vampire Diaries only has one season left, then fans can certainly expect Dobrev to reprise her role at some point.

“It’s what she and I kind of agreed on when she decided to move on, and it’s what I’ve got in my head,” Plec shared in an interview with TV Line. “Obviously things can change throughout time, if the show goes on longer, or if we all collectively decide it would be fun to bring her back earlier, and she wanted to.”

Even though Dobrev has moved on with her career in the movie industry, Plec is still hoping that the actress will return for one final showing.

“But in my opinion, she was very clear about what she wanted the next step in her life to be, and she’s doing a great job of achieving that,” Plec stated. “So I’m sticking with my side of the plan, which is to bring her back at the very end.”

That being said, Parent Herald is reporting that there is one person who might get in the way of a potential Dobrev/Somerhalder reunion.

Ian Somerhalder’s wife has apparently banned him from ever working with Dobrev again. Although this hasn’t been confirmed, Somerhalder has purposely avoided interacting with Dobrev in the past.

During the 2015 Teen Choice Awards, Somerhalder and Dobrev were given the Best Kiss award. While Dobrev showed up to accept the award — and fans anticipated an onstage smooch between the former lovers — Somerhalder ditched the event.

Of course, Somerhalder and Reed have a fairly strong marriage, leading many to speculate that she has no qualms about Somerhalder working with Dobrev in the near future.

Meanwhile, Plec and network execs have not determined whether or not Season 8 will be the last for the hit show. While fans wait for more official word on the matter, the president of the CW, Mark Pedowitz, hopes the series will continue on.

“No decision has been made one way or the other. My dream is it isn’t [the final season],” Pedowitz said in a statement.

The new season of The Vampire Diaries is set to premiere next fall.
