New ‘Friday The 13th’ Movie Will Introduce Long-Lost Members Of Jason Voorhees’ Family
Remakes, reboots, and new versions of horror films are nothing new as it has happened with everything from A Nightmare on Elm Street, to Halloween, to Stephen King’s It and plenty of others. Now, it’s happening yet again with Friday the 13th, and Jason Voorhees is going to get another origin story, but this one will be different. Everyone knows about Jason’s mother, but prepare for her to return and for other members of Jason’s family to finally become known.
Writer Aaron Guzikowski (Prisoners) is working on the script for the new Friday the 13th, and it was actually due sometime in May. Well, The Reel Word is reporting that the script has indeed been completed and turned in to Brad Fuller of Platinum Dunes who has confirmed that the studio is moving forward with the tale as it is.
“Aaron’s story has great characters. You kind of have to understand Jason Voorhees, so we go back and we kind of started over and work our way forward.”
So, the new remake or reboot of the Friday the 13th franchise is going to be another origin story, but in what way, exactly?
Fuller clarified what he meant by this being another starting over point and he revealed some extremely interesting information.
“Origin-ish, but it’s an origin that no one has seen before. Obviously, Pamela’s there, but it’s a little bit different from what you’ve seen before.”
So, much like in the 1980 film, Pamela Voorhees is going to be there and fans that may not know it, need to realize that she is Jason’s mother. There is more, though, and Birth. Movies. Death. is reporting that Jason will no longer be a one-parent child.
Yes, Jason’s father, Elias Voorhees, is going to finally be introduced to the world.
In the past, there were times he was going to appear in one movie or another, but he just never showed up. The original ending of Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives actually had Elias Voorhees visiting the empty grave of his son, Jason.
For a long time now, the Friday the 13th franchise has set on the shelf with ideas being thrown around, but nothing ever came of it. Paramount was able to get the franchise’s rights back from Warner Bros. in a deal that gave them Interstellar from Christopher Nolan, according to Bloody-Disgusting.
Platinum Dunes is producing the next Jason Voorhees’ horror flick, and they now have the time to focus on things. They’re not going to just let it sit and fester along with so many other titles which could be successful if given the right attention, a little bit of money, and someone who actually cares to make a good movie or two.
Friday the 13th always has had a lot of potential, but the story grew stale after a while as it was always the same thing repeated. Now, adding in his father and bringing back Pamela? That just makes things so much more interesting again.
This may add a lot more to the reasoning that Jason is so messed up in the first place.
The plan for the next and newest installment of Friday the 13th is set to hit theaters on January 13, 2017, but that may have to be moved. The script was just finished and there has been no word on casting as of yet so it looks as if Platinum Dunes may have to find a new release date. Jason Voorhees’ origin and childhood are already known, but things may all change soon and fans could finally see what impact the rest of his family had on him.
