Adam Sandler Hires Chris Rock As A Surprise Guest, And Why There Won’t Be A ‘Jack And Jill 2’

Adam Sandler had Chris Rock as his surprise guest during his comedy show at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre, according to Page Six. The two comedians devoted the show to the servicemen and women in town for Fleet Week.

So Adam Sandler scheduled a comedy show at Kings Theatre to promote his new Netflix film titled The Do-Over. And what better way to attract even more people to watch the movie than to invite a fellow comedian?

So Rock performed during the show as Adam Sandler’s opening act in the form of a mini stand-up. Then, the 51-year-old comedian, who hosted this year’s Academy Awards ceremony back in February, introduced Sandler, who performed his routine for over an hour. Sandler’s target audience was sailors so many jokes were in harmony with the theme.

Every time someone says something about Adam Sandler, people either express their sheer enthusiasm with his comedy or frustration with his “unfunny,” as they claim, jokes, according to Decider. And unfortunately, it seems that, in recent years at least, the latter has been more predominant than the former.

It’s been a long time since the general audience described Adam Sandler’s work in comedy as genuinely or even remotely funny. But there was this one movie that put a dent on the 49-year-old’s comedy career.

And that movie was Jack and Jill, which was released in 2011. Although the movie starred such stars as Katie Holmes and Al Pacino alongside Adam Sandler, it still didn’t help the film to escape the humiliating rating of 3 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie is centered around fraternal twins Jack and Jill, both played by Sandler.

In fact, the movie was so bad it received not only one Razzie in 2012 but made history by winning in every single category it was nominated that year. Adam Sandler then picked up both the worst actor and actress awards. That’s how bad it was.

So Adam Sandler’s male character – Jack – pretended to be his twin sister – Jill – so he could date Al Pacino. And the reason Jack was so eager to go on a date with Al Pacino was that he wanted to become closer to the world of celebrities and convince Tony Montana to record a rap song for a commercial of Dunkin’ Donuts, owned by Jack and Jill.

Jill is a very obnoxious character who constantly annoys her twin brother Jack. And Adam Sandler tried to convey that brotherly-sisterly love-hatred onscreen as best as he could. And as a result, he ended up getting a Razzie for both his role of Jack and Jill.

And while Jack gets to deal with all kinds of annoying things coming from his twin sister, he also gets to put lots of effort to manage his account with Dunkin’ Donuts. In fact, Adam Sandler’s character wants Al Pacino to appear in the brand’s new commercial only because they love the sound of a new doughnut called a “Dunkaccino.”

And when Jack approaches Al Pacino to offer him to be a star of Dunkin’ Donuts commercials, the actor rejects the offer. It appears that Pacino’s onscreen character is much wiser when it comes to making business choices than the real life Pacino.

But then Pacino sees Jill, played by Adam Sandler, and he immediately tells Jack that he would accept the offer only if he could go on a date with his twin sister. So now Jack has the mission to pretend to be his sister to seduce the actor and Tony Montana to appear in Dunkin’ Donuts commercials.

As of today, there are no plans to do a Jack and Jill 2. The first film grossed over $149 million worldwide, while its budget stood at $79 million.
