Agent Carter Season 3 may end up happening after all. The cast and fans are doing everything they can, campaigning non-stop for streaming sites such as Netflix and Amazon to pick the cancelled ABC series back up. Stars Hayley Atwell and Dominic Cooper continue to remain hopeful for a renewal.
At the 2016 MegaCon in Orlando Florida, Hayley Atwell, who plays Peggy Carter on Agent Carter , shared that she is willing to do whatever it takes just to bring the show back on air.
“I’d shoot on the weekends. Blue serum. Whatever it takes.”
Atwell shared that she loved playing the role of Peggy, adding that it would be a privilege an honor to bring the character back to the fans. Had Agent Carter been renewed for Season 3, Atwell said that there was a talk of her character going back to the past. She, however, refused to reveal more details, just in case the show eventually returns.
“The showrunners were talking about a possible kind of twist, I suppose, into something to do with the family. They suggested there would be more to do with my brother. So that’s all I can say.”
Speaking at MCM London Comic Con, via Business Standard , Dominic Cooper, who played Howard Stark in the series, echoed Hayley Atwell’s statement. Just like the actress, he was hoping that streaming sites will be able to pick up Agent Carter for Season 3. He believed that there is still a lot of story left for the characters, adding that he would also love to reprise his role.
Cooper also thanked Agent Carter fans for relentlessly campaigning for the show’s renewal. He said that Atwell and James D’Arcy (Edwin Jarvis) were both humbled by the support they have been receiving. He also remained optimistic that the ABC cancellation is not the end for the series, especially with the rise of streaming sites.
“I’m sure there’s people talking about it now. What’s wonderful about Amazon and other streaming sites, whereas that might have been the end of the road completely, now there’s hope that it might not be.”
At the time of writing, 117,605 fans have already signed a change.org petition to bring Agent Carter Season 3 to Netflix. Fans held that Peggy Carter is one of the strongest female characters and her story deserved to continue. Several also expressed disappointment towards ABC for failing to give closure to the series.
“By cutting Agent Carter, ABC is only adding to the stigma that women cannot act as a lead role and be powerful by themselves that is often preached by media standards. Peggy Carter is without a doubt the leading lady of the Marvel franchise, so in preventing her story, the story of one of the most important characters of a massive company, from being fully told, you are eliminating a key role-model for many young female superhero fans [sic],” a supporter wrote.
The Save Agent Carter petition has been shared by several celebrities and personalities including Chad Michael Murray, Tara Butters, Geoffrey Colo, G. Willow Wilson, Caolyn Poddig, Jennifer R. Carey and Andrea Steiner.
After being on air for only two seasons, ABC decided to pull the plug on the series because of its less-than-stellar ratings. According to The Hollywood Reporter , the show failed to draw high numbers in spite of receiving good reviews from critics. Agent Carter reportedly had a 1.4 rating among adults under 50 and had an average of 4.3 million viewers, which is a huge drop compared to Agents of SHIELD.
