Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 Update: Verizon’s Variant Receives Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow
The official Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update is currently rolling out for Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab S2. Android Police reported that this is the first Galaxy tablet on Verizon to get the Marshmallow OS.
Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 users should receive an OTA notification automatically once the Marshmallow update becomes available on their tablet. But since it is being rolled out in stages, it may take a while before all the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 units receive it, the report noted.
Galaxy Tab S2 users who want to verify the firmware’s availability on their unit can do a manual check by navigating to the Settings menu, then heading to About Device. Afterward, look for “Check for Updates” option and tap it. The system will then look for any firmware updates available for the Verizon slate.
Installing the Android Marshmallow update on Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 smoothly will entail the use of a strong Wi-Fi connection or a stable data connection. Checking the battery level is also important, as the firmware update will not push through if it is not fully charged or if the phone does not have at least 80 percent power.
According to the Verizon Wireless support page, the firmware update for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 carries the build number MMB29K.T817VVRU2BPE1. The latest build to arrive for Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 not only provides the Android Marshmallow OS, but it also comes with new features that make the mobile experience easier and more efficient.
Droid Life specifically shared that the Memo application got a drawing feature, and there are now animations and collages functions to the Gallery app. The stock email app also got its own set of improvement from the latest firmware update. For instance, as posted on the Verizon support page, the email toolbar now features a “complete set of rich editing functions.” There’s also a new sort function allowing users to find emails easily. To view emails, Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 users can select All, From, To, and by the Subject line, it explained.
As for other fresh Android Marshmallow features, upon installing the latest firmware, Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 owners can enjoy their device not only for personal use but also for work. Through Android For Work, the Tab S2 will have a “dedicated Work Profile with security, management and application support built-in,” Android’s official page noted.
Another new functionality from the Android Marshmallow update useful for shoppers is Android Pay, a wireless payment system offering a faster and safer service. According to Android’s website, this feature, comparable to Apple Pay and Samsung Pay, provides an additional security measure that uses a virtual account number instead of the real one.
The firmware update for the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 also offers new features such as Now on Tap and Doze. The former is a virtual assistance service anticipating the user’s need by providing cards with useful information while the latter helps to save battery by putting the tablet into a sleep mode when it is not being used.
